Tower Hamlet
Full time position: 35/hrs a week
£23/hr

AKTON Recruitment is working closely with the local authorities and we are looking for a Youth Engagement Officer in the Tower Hamlets. Enhanced DBS require.

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB
1. To coordinate the development and delivery of a menu of youth participatory activities, events and programmes within a range of settings but not limited to schools, youth/children's centre-based, street and community settings for children and young people aged 5 to 19 and up to age 25 if they have a learning difficulty or disability. To ensure active engagement and participation in youth lead participation projects, programmed informal educational activities such as but not limited to Children in Care Council, Young Carers, Youth Inspections & Commissioning; Peer Forums, Youth Council, Young Mayors and are inclusive, supportive and accessible that meet the
needs of children, young people and families.

2. To develop effective partnerships and work with colleagues and external stakeholder organisations, including those commissioned by the Youth Service, Early help, Family support, Youth Justice Service and other youth led providers to deliver youth activities and peer led programmes, to assist and support children, young people and their families (where appropriate) to share their views and experiences, engage in and with decision makers that leads to achieving positive outcomes in their personal, social, emotional, health and educational development and progression.

3. To maximise and support participation and engagement of children and young people using different methodologies (consultation, user evaluation, qualitative and quantitative methods) in undertaking groupwork, leadership roles, young leader's activity, inspection and evaluation, ensuring systems are in place that promotes the use of a variety of methods and approaches including, but not limited to, accreditation, one-to-one work, group work, volunteering, active citizenship and peer education utilising, building based work and project based approaches that enable them to participate in the process.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
1. To implement the coordination and delivery of peer led Programmes, events and youth activity such as but not limited to the Care council, weekly care leavers club sessions, young carers sessions, youth inspections & commissioning, young mayor's offer/ elections, group work, leadership, youth achievement awards, local democracy week, takeover day and young women specific programmes that provides a platform for children and young people to have a voice, be empowered and supports in their personal, social, emotional, health and educational development and progression.

2. To deliver a varied offer of youth participation activities, events and programmes for children and young people, through but not limited to, accredited programmes, one- to-one work, group work, volunteering, the provision of partnership led sessions, youth voice & influence, active citizenship and leadership programmes, participation and youth led opportunities including peer led training that enhances access to opportunities and leads to positive outcomes.

3. To work with the team manager, colleagues and young people in in creating and delivering volunteering/ apprenticeships / service plan/ opportunities for the active engagement of volunteers, overseeing and managing the day to day supervision of apprentices and volunteers, assigning work priorities where appropriate, supporting, recruiting and coordinating the delivery of a volunteering across the service.

Qualifications & Experience
* A relevant professional qualification in a child, youth or family related discipline e.g. teaching, youth work, early years, probation; youth justice

* Experience of working effectively with other professionals in order to safeguard children, young people and their families particularly those who present with risk issues and challenging behaviour such as substance misuse, anti-social behaviour, mental health and criminality
