Description:

Plant Fitter Ready for a Step Up? Become a Yard Manager.

Chertsey Monday-Friday £50,000-£55,000

If you're a Plant Fitter who loves being hands‑on but knows you're capable of more - more responsibility, more influence, more money - this role is built for you.

This is your chance to stay on the tools, keep doing the practical engineering you're great at, while stepping up into a leadership position where you run the yard, make decisions, and take ownership of how everything operates.

It's the ideal blend: hands‑on plant fitting with genuine yard management authority.

Why This Role Stands Out

Most "progression" roles pull you off the tools and stick you behind a desk. Not this one.

Here, you'll still be repairing, servicing, diagnosing, and working on plant machinery - but you'll also be the person who controls the yard, organises the workflow, and keeps the operation running smoothly.

If you've ever thought: "I'm ready for more responsibility - but I still want to be hands‑on…" This role is exactly that.

What You'll Be Doing

Hands‑on plant maintenance - hydraulics, mechanical, electrical, fault‑finding, servicing.

Running the yard - organising machinery, vehicles, equipment, and daily operations.

Planning the workload - you decide what gets done first and how the yard flows.

Diagnostics & repairs - you remain the technical expert on the ground.

Safety leadership - ensuring the yard runs safely and professionally.

Stock & parts control - managing inventory and ordering what's needed.

Supporting operators & drivers - you're the go‑to problem solver.

Improving processes - spotting inefficiencies and fixing them.

This is a role where your experience finally gets the authority it deserves.

Who This Role Is Perfect For

This is ideal for a fitter who:

Wants a step up without losing the hands‑on side

Enjoys organising, planning, and taking charge

Wants to earn £50-£55K for the responsibility they take on

Likes being the person who keeps the yard running

Wants Monday-Friday stability

Is ambitious enough to run a yard and make it their own

If you've ever wanted to move into supervision, yard management, or operations leadership, this is the perfect progression role.

Essential Experience

Strong background as a Plant Fitter, Mechanical Fitter, or Heavy Equipment Technician

Confident diagnosing and repairing hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical faults

Experience in a yard, depot, or plant environment

Organised, proactive, and able to manage your own workload

Comfortable taking charge and making decisions

Desirable

Any experience leading or mentoring others

Knowledge of waste, recycling, aggregates, or construction machinery

Familiarity with telehandlers, loading shovels, crushers, screeners, etc.

What You Get

£50,000-£55,000 salary

Monday-Friday working

A genuine step up into leadership

A role that stays hands‑on

Autonomy, responsibility, and influence

Long‑term progression into full yard management
