Year 6 Transition Teacher (Full-Time)

Supply Desk is working in partnership with a welcoming and supportive primary school in Burnham to appoint a dedicated and enthusiastic Year 6 Transition Teacher. This is a fantastic opportunity to support pupils during one of the most important stages of their primary education, helping them prepare confidently for the move from primary school to secondary school.

This role would suit a passionate and adaptable teacher with strong Key Stage 2 experience, particularly within Year 6, who is committed to raising attainment, building confidence, and ensuring pupils are academically and emotionally ready for the next stage of their learning journey.

The Role

As a Year 6 Transition Teacher, you will play a vital role in preparing pupils for the transition to secondary education. You will help bridge learning gaps, develop independence and resilience, and provide targeted support to ensure every child leaves primary school feeling confident and prepared.

Key Responsibilities

Planning and delivering engaging, differentiated Year 6 lessons aligned to the Key Stage 2 curriculum
Supporting pupils in their preparation for secondary school, both academically and emotionally
Identifying and addressing gaps in learning, particularly in reading, writing, and mathematics
Providing targeted interventions to accelerate progress and raise attainment
Monitoring and assessing pupil progress, using data to inform planning and support strategies
Promoting independence, resilience, and effective study skills to support transition to Key Stage 3
Creating a positive, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment
Supporting pupils of all abilities, including those with SEN and additional learning needs
Working closely with colleagues, the SENCo, leadership team, and receiving secondary schools where appropriate
Building strong relationships with parents and carers to support pupils during this key period

Requirements

Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) – Desirable
Experience teaching within Key Stage 2, ideally Year 6
Strong knowledge of the Key Stage 2 curriculum and end-of-primary expectations
Excellent classroom management and organisational skills
A nurturing, adaptable, and pupil-centred teaching approach
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Ability to work full-time in Great Missenden from September

Desirable

Previous experience teaching Year 6 pupils
Experience preparing pupils for SATs and transition to secondary education
Strong understanding of intervention strategies and targeted support programmes
Experience supporting pupils with SEN
Knowledge of assessment, progress tracking, and attainment data analysis
