The Opportunity

An established engineering business is looking for a hands-on Workshop & Technical Support Engineer to join its team, specialising in process cooling and refrigeration equipment.

This is a varied role combining practical workshop engineering with technical troubleshooting, customer support, equipment testing and repair coordination. You’ll be responsible for ensuring equipment is serviced, repaired and refurbished to a high standard, while supporting customers and field engineers with technical issues.

The position offers the opportunity to develop your technical expertise, contribute to workshop improvements and build a long-term career within a specialist engineering environment.

Key Responsibilities

Workshop Engineering & Equipment Repairs

*

Diagnose faults, service, repair and refurbish refrigeration and process cooling equipment.

*

Work on customer-owned, rental, loan and trial equipment returned to the workshop.

*

Carry out routine and urgent repairs, ensuring equipment meets required quality and performance standards.

*

Test equipment before release and ensure all work is completed safely, efficiently and within agreed budgets.

Workshop Coordination & Planning

*

Maintain the workshop schedule, prioritising jobs to meet deadlines and customer requirements.

*

Coordinate parts, resources and workloads alongside the Engineering Manager.

*

Arrange additional technical support where necessary and ensure completed work is properly signed off.

*

Contribute to the ongoing improvement of workshop processes, facilities and testing equipment.

Repair Assessments & Commercial Support

*

Assess damaged or faulty equipment and identify the work required.

*

Prepare accurate estimates for labour, parts and repair costs.

*

Provide technical information to the sales team to support quotations and customer approvals.

*

Ensure work is completed within agreed costs and commercial parameters.

Quality, Safety & Administration

*

Maintain accurate service, repair, refurbishment and testing records.

*

Record faults, parts used, work completed and final inspection results.

*

Follow health and safety procedures and maintain a clean, safe and organised workshop.

*

Use company CRM and service management systems to record activities and maintain accurate customer information.

*

Handle confidential information appropriately and keep technical knowledge up to date through training and development.

What We're Looking For

*

Proven experience servicing, fault-finding and repairing refrigeration or process cooling equipment.

*

Good working knowledge of refrigeration systems, components and associated equipment.

*

Valid F-Gas certification appropriate to the work undertaken.

*

Relevant mechanical, electrical or refrigeration qualifications, such as City & Guilds, or equivalent practical experience.

*

Experience in a similar engineering, workshop or technical service support position; ideally two years or more.

*

Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, including electrical schematics.

*

Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills, with a practical, methodical approach.

*

Good organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.

*

Confident communication skills, with the ability to support customers and engineers remotely.

*

Commercial awareness when assessing repairs, estimating costs and managing workshop budgets.

*

Competent IT skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and service management systems.

*

A collaborative approach when working with Engineering, Service, Sales and Purchasing teams.

Above all, you'll be a technically minded engineer who takes pride in delivering quality workmanship, solving problems and providing excellent customer service.

The Ideal Candidate

You'll enjoy a hands-on engineering role but also be comfortable speaking with customers, supporting field engineers and helping coordinate workshop activities. If you have a strong refrigeration background, enjoy fault-finding and want a role offering variety, responsibility and long-term development, this could be an excellent next step
