Workshop Manager

Location – Calmore, Southampton

Pay - £50k-£80k per annum

Hours - Monday to Thursday – 07:30 - 17:30

Friday – 07:30 - 13:30

My client is a very well established mechanical engineering organisation offering complete project services to a variety of industries including Petro-Chemical, Oil & Gas, Power, Water and Pharmaceutical. With more than 20 years’ experience working with very well known and trusted clients. They have gone through sustained growth year on year over the past few years and with long term contracts secured, therefore this role provides long term job security and growth opportunities.

Main purpose of the role is to oversee and manage the manufacturing process of projects to include programming, engineering, material procurement, labour resourcing, QA & control commercial aspects of the build. As the Workshop / Fabrication Manager you will drive the business forward and help maintain the reputation gained for delivering projects with extremely tight fabrication schedules on time.

Must be computer literate with a working knowledge of word and excel with a sound engineering background in the Petro-Chemical, Oil & Gas or similar industry. The position also demands a high level of mathematical / numerical competency and communication skills.

Roles / Responsibilities -

* Liaise with the Estimating department for contract handovers to fully understand contract requirements including collating & reporting information from client.

* Ensure all codes and industry standards are adhered too throughout the manufacturing process. Including creating and following an agreed Inspection Test Plan/ MRB. Q.A department to assist where necessary.

* Study fabrication drawings to identify any potential issue with either materials or manufacturing.

* Review, check & create a complete bill of materials for the project and pass to procurement being mindful of material budgets, material lead times and delivery requirements.

* Undertake engineering and prepare work packs to issue for fabrication to the shop floor

* Produce production schedules and program workshop resource for each contract including sub vendor activities.

* Complete daily progress checks & communicate with workshop supervisors.

* Liaise with production department to understand delivery end dates and client expectations

* Liaise and organise sub-contract activities required to complete the project including interacting with third party inspectors and clientele.

* Ensure all commercial issues are addressed prior to project completion. i.e. agree and submit client variations to estimating department.

* Report all relevant contract information to company directors.

A sound understanding, working knowledge and experience with the following industry codes and standards is desired.

* Pressure vessel codes ASME VIII & PD5500.

* ASME U & R stamp.

* Pipe work codes ASME B31.3 / ASME B31.1

* P.E.D requirements including CE and UKCA Marking.

* Welding standards to ASME IX & BS 15614
