Teaching Personnel is recruiting a Wellbeing and Pastoral Support Assistant for secondary schools across Durham, with positions available immediately. This is a broad pastoral role — distinct from SEMH support or behaviour mentoring — focused on the general wellbeing of students across the school and providing early, accessible support before issues escalate.

You'll be a visible, approachable presence within the school community, working across year groups to check in with students, support those going through difficult periods, and act as a first point of contact for young people who need someone to talk to. It's a role that rewards warmth, consistency, and genuine care for young people's overall experience of school.

What the role involves:

Providing pastoral support and wellbeing check-ins for students across KS3 and KS4
Acting as an approachable first point of contact for students experiencing personal difficulties
Supporting form tutors and heads of year with pastoral responsibilities
Monitoring student attendance, engagement, and wellbeing on a day to day basis
Liaising with the SENCO, pastoral team, and external agencies where appropriate
Contributing to a positive, inclusive school culture
Upholding safeguarding responsibilities at all times
What we're looking for:

Experience in a pastoral, support, or youth work role
A warm, empathetic, and genuinely student-focused approach
Ability to build trusting relationships with young people quickly and naturally
Strong communication skills across students, staff, and families
Relevant qualifications in youth work, counselling, or education are desirable
Enhanced DBS on the Update Service

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
