Astute's Nuclear team is partnering with TSP Engineering, a technical solutions provider, delivering high-quality bespoke solutions to the civil nuclear/defence sectors, to recruit a Welding Engineer to work out of their Workington site.

The Welding Engineer plays a crucial role in supporting a number of exciting projects in the civil nuclear/defence sector, providing welding technical expertise and comes with a salary up to £50,000, 35 days annual leave (inc BH) and unrivalled progression routes.

Responsibilities and Duties

Reporting to the Workshop Manager you will:

Monitor fabrication quality, inspection & welding processes in use at TSP to ensure compliance with agreed standards and cost assumptions. Investigate and resolve fabrication quality issues, taking or recommending appropriate corrective action.
Produce weld procedures from engineering drawings to enable fabrication in the most cost-effective manner.
Design & qualify welding procedures to meet product and client requirements.
Investigate complaints relating to fabrication & welding engineering issues and recommend appropriate corrective action.
Review and approve sub-contractor and supplier weld procedures and, on occasions, confirm correct application.
Technically assess and purchase all welding consumables, control welding consumable stores to ensure consumable availability but subject to limitations of budgetary control.
Other duties as assigned.

Professional qualifications

We are looking for someone with the following:

Welding Engineer Qualification (EWE/IWE)
Detailed knowledge of the workshop fabrication and welding processes
Experience of steel and other material fabrication
Progress fabrication, welding, and QA technical issues
Member of Relevant Professional Institute

Personal skills

The Welding Engineer role would suit someone who is:

British National to obtain the relevant security clearances
Has the ability to guide junior members of the team
Ideally has experience in the nuclear sector
