Experienced MIG Welder? Looking for a permanent role with plenty of variety, excellent overtime rates and the opportunity to work on major rail engineering projects? We are working with an established engineering business in Derby that is expanding its welding and fabrication team due to an increase in workload.

This is an excellent opportunity for experienced MIG Welders to join a busy, well-equipped engineering workshop, working on heavy fabrication, rail wagon refurbishment and structural repairs.

You'll be involved in a variety of engineering projects, from repairing and refurbishing rail wagons to manufacturing and repairing heavy steel components.

We're really interested in experienced MIG Welders from rail, structural steel, heavy fabrication, industrial engineering and similar environments.

What you'll be doing
MIG welding on heavy steel components and structural fabrications.
Repairing and refurbishing rail wagons, including bolster repairs and corrosion damage.
Fabricating and repairing wagon components, battery boxes and other heavy steel assemblies.
Working from engineering drawings and technical specifications.
Preparing, cutting, welding and finishing metal components.
Carrying out high-quality weld repairs to meet required standards.
Using workshop fabrication equipment, hand tools and power tools.
Maintaining high standards of workmanship, quality and health and safety.
Supporting occasional site-based engineering and welding projects where required. What we're looking for
Proven experience in MIG welding, ideally within a heavy engineering or fabrication environment.
Experience working with structural steel, heavy fabrications or industrial equipment.
The ability to produce strong, consistent, high-quality welds.
Confidence reading and interpreting engineering drawings.
Experience preparing and repairing steel components.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
A good understanding of workshop safety and quality standards.
Willingness to complete a practical weld test. Desirable but not essential:

Previous experience in rail engineering, rolling stock or wagon refurbishment.
NVQ Level 3 in Welding / Fabrication or equivalent.
Experience with TIG welding or aluminium fabrication.
Experience working on industrial maintenance, structural repairs or site-based engineering projects. Time-served Welders with strong practical MIG welding experience are encouraged to apply, even without formal qualifications.
