Position: Waste Management Driver/Team Leader

Location: Stanley Industrial Estate, Skelmersdale, WN8 8EE

Start Date: ASAP

Contract Duration: 2+ Months

Working Hours: 36 hours per week

Pay Rate: PAYE: £ 17.08 per hour

Job Responsibilities

Drive and operate waste collection vehicles in accordance with road traffic regulations and company procedures.

Lead and supervise a small crew during daily waste collection operations, ensuring work is completed safely and efficiently.

Carry out manual handling duties, including the collection, loading, and disposal of household and commercial waste.

Conduct daily vehicle safety checks and report any defects, accidents, or maintenance requirements promptly.

Ensure compliance with health and safety policies, environmental regulations, and safe working practices.

Plan and complete designated collection routes within agreed schedules while maintaining high service standards.

Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and members of the public, resolving routine issues professionally.

Maintain accurate records of vehicle inspections, collection activities, and any incidents as required.

Assist with training and supporting new or less experienced team members where necessary.

Keep vehicles, equipment, and work areas clean and in good working order.

Person Specification

Previous experience in waste management, refuse collection, environmental services, or a similar manual labour role.

Experience driving large vehicles relevant to the role (appropriate licence required where applicable).

Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and supervise a small operational team.

Physically fit and capable of carrying out repetitive manual handling duties in all weather conditions.

Good understanding of health and safety legislation and safe manual handling practices.

Reliable, punctual, and able to work effectively under pressure to meet service deadlines.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a customer-focused approach.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.

Flexible attitude with a willingness to adapt to changing operational requirements.

Commitment to maintaining high standards of professionalism, safety, and service delivery.
