An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Waste Management professional to join a Local Authority in a senior contract management capacity.
We are seeking a highly experienced individual with a strong background in managing large-scale waste contracts and operational waste services. This role requires someone who can confidently challenge contractors, drive performance, manage compliance and provide expert operational oversight across a complex waste portfolio.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the management and performance of major waste treatment, recycling and disposal contracts.
* Oversee contractor performance across Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs), Material Recovery Facilities (MRFs), waste treatment and landfill operations.
* Monitor contractual KPIs, service standards and compliance requirements.
* Identify operational risks and implement corrective action plans where required.
* Manage relationships with key contractors, stakeholders and service providers.
* Provide technical expertise on waste collection, treatment and disposal operations.
* Ensure compliance with environmental legislation, permits and contractual obligations.
* Support service improvements, efficiency initiatives and contract reviews.
* Manage budgets, financial performance and contractual change processes.
Essential Experience
* Significant experience managing large multi-million-pound waste contracts.
* Strong operational knowledge of waste collection, treatment and disposal services.
* Experience working within a Local Authority waste environment.
* Experience managing contractors and holding suppliers accountable for performance.
* Knowledge of HWRC, MRF, landfill, transfer station, treatment and recycling operations.
* Strong commercial, contractual and compliance management skills.
* Excellent stakeholder management and negotiation abilities
