The Role

We are recruiting for an experienced Ward Manager to join a specialist mental health hospital providing inpatient care for women with complex and enduring mental health needs.

This is an excellent opportunity for a highly motivated and dynamic Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN) to take responsibility for the clinical and operational management of a ward within an established specialist service.

As Ward Manager, you will lead the day-to-day running of the ward, ensuring patients receive a consistently high standard of safe, effective and person-centred care.

Working closely with the wider multidisciplinary team and senior clinical leadership, you will provide strong leadership to the nursing team while ensuring the service meets all internal, regulatory and professional standards.

The Service

The hospital provides specialist assessment, treatment and rehabilitation for women with a range of complex needs, including:

Personality disorders

Complex and enduring mental health conditions

Mild to moderate learning disabilities

Patients detained under the Mental Health Act

High-dependency and complex presentations

The service provides a comprehensive pathway of care, including low secure, high dependency/PICU and rehabilitation services.

The overall approach focuses on recovery, rehabilitation and delivering care within the least restrictive environment possible. The multidisciplinary team works closely with patients to maintain therapeutic relationships, promote independence and support individuals towards their optimum level of functioning.

Key Responsibilities

As Ward Manager, you will be responsible for the clinical leadership and operational management of the ward, including:

Providing clear and effective leadership to the nursing and wider clinical team

Managing the day-to-day clinical and operational requirements of the ward

Ensuring appropriate staffing and effective management of shifts

Maintaining high standards of clinical governance, quality and compliance

Ensuring internal policies, professional standards and external regulatory requirements are consistently met

Developing and maintaining therapeutic relationships with patients

Promoting a patient-centred and recovery-focused approach to care

Supporting patient assessments and the development, implementation and review of individual care plans

Monitoring patient progress and responding appropriately to changes in clinical presentation

Working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team and senior clinical leadership

Providing supervision, guidance and support to members of the nursing team

Managing challenging situations and responding effectively to changing service requirements

Supporting and mentoring student nurses and less experienced colleagues

Promoting continuous professional development across the ward

Identifying opportunities to improve clinical practice and patient outcomes

Ensuring clinical documentation is accurate, comprehensive and completed to the required standards

Promoting an open, professional and positive culture across the service
