Vehicle Workshop Fitter
Job Type: Temporary

Duration: This is temporary ongoing with no end date specified
Location: Gateshead
Pay Rates: Negotiable and depending on skill and experience.
Working Days and Hours: Monday to Friday, hours to be confirmed, likely to be 9am to 5pm
* Work a shift system incorporating unsociable hours every 4th week.
* Overtime is available in an addition to enhanced payment for winter maintenance call out duties
Key Responsibilities
* Vehicle Fitters will be required to operate vehicles, the range covers cars to HGVs and plant, including forklift trucks.
* Undertake inspections, repairs, servicing, and maintenance to vehicles and plant.
* Determining faults and then undertaking effective repairs.
* Carry out electrical repairs to vehicles.
* Attend and affect the recovery of breakdowns across the borough.
* Use of welding, heating, abrasive and cutting tools as required.
* Use of lifting equipment.
* Care of tools and equipment.
* To participate in training as advised by Line Manager.
* To take responsibility for own and others’ health and safety.
* To communicate and interact positively with other service users and employees from all levels within the Council.
* Working independently of supervision.
* Any other duties allocated that are appropriate to the grade of the post.
Role Profile - Vehicle Workshop Fitter
* Appropriate City & Guilds Motor Vehicle Maintenance qualifications or equivalent (including Level 3 in Heavy Vehicle maintenance) or willingness to work towards.
* Full current driving license
* Light welding Vehicle and equipment recovery.
* Driving a range of vehicle types.
* Maintaining and repairing a range of vehicles
* Effective oral and written communication skills
