WHAT TO EXPECT

The Vehicle Safety Test Laboratory is responsible for testing the safety attributes on JLR vehicles in line with annual process and programme demands. 

Working within the Vehicle Safety Test Laboratory at Gaydon, the candidate will be responsible for leading a test team within the department and be the focal point for compliance activities.

You will be arranging and conducting component, system or vehicle tests to meet development, CAE or sign-off requirements. A wide range of quasi-static and dynamic test rigs are used to evaluate Airbag deployments, Pedestrian Impact, Interior Head Impacts, Bumpers, IPs and seats, Body and Chassis structures, Sensing Systems, Seats and Restraints, Roof Crush resistance and other systems and components.
This position is to lead a new test facility, to develop the team and refine processes related to airbag testing. The role will be on a day shift initially, but the team will move to a shift pattern during 2024.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

•    Liaise with programme management and customers to provide test service via DART requests.
•    Manage tests in line with internal and external test standards.
•    Collaborate with peers and rest of department to optimise test sequencing and prioritisation of tasks.
•    Manage small team, including task prioritisation, resource allocation and job sizing.
•    Manage objectives, coach and develop individuals.
•    Liaise with internal depts including product compliance teams, liase with external accreditation agencies. 
•    Liaise with CoC's/ Tech’ centres, Safety Delivery teams and other team leaders to provide test service required.
•    Drive for timely supply of parts and manage parts throughput alongside stores.
•    Produce tests and sign-off reports suitable for homologation.
•    Creation and maintenance of JLR Way documentation.
•    Timely resolution of actions from Complaints and Anomalies, CCARs, NCs.
•    Contribution to data and records management and sections of website.
•    Represent department and company at external bodies and meetings.
•    Review and improve processes and implement change.
•    Understand future customer requirements, translate into facility and process changes.
•    Design and/or modification to test rigs and fixtures in response to legislation and test protocols.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED 

•    Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation or Mechatronics Engineering background.
•    Ability to lead, motivate and inspire a mixed team and collaborate with peers.
•    Knowledge of instrumentation, and principles of use.
•    Experienced with Testing, Safety Testing, Vehicle Safety Testing, Airbag Testing
•    Experience or has familiarity of automotive safety related legislation and test protocols.
•    Experience of test laboratory environment.
•    Good communication and presentation skills to all levels.
•    Flexible team player, who is self motivated to deliver good quality service and share knowledge.
