Role Overview
The Utility Consultant will play a pivotal role in delivering end-to-end utility infrastructure solutions for clients across a broad range of development and construction projects. From initial feasibility assessments through to final connections and metering, the successful candidate will provide expert guidance, technical leadership, and project oversight across electricity, gas, water, and telecommunications networks. This role requires extensive industry knowledge, strong stakeholder management capabilities, and the ability to successfully deliver complex, multi-disciplinary utility projects.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead and manage utility infrastructure projects from feasibility through to final connection, with a primary focus on electricity, gas, and water services.
* Provide strategic and technical consultancy to clients on utility requirements, network capacity, infrastructure design, and connection solutions.
* Manage and coordinate utility disconnections, diversions, and infrastructure modification works to support development programmes.
* Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients, utility network operators, statutory authorities, contractors, and other key stakeholders.
* Oversee project delivery teams, ensuring projects are completed safely, on time, within budget, and in accordance with applicable regulations and quality standards.
* Undertake technical due diligence, utility appraisals, and feasibility studies to identify constraints, risks, and opportunities at an early stage.
* Prepare and review technical reports, project documentation, and client presentations.
* Contribute to business development activities, including client engagement, proposal preparation, and supporting new business opportunities.
* Monitor industry developments, regulatory changes, and emerging technologies to ensure best practice is incorporated into project delivery.
* Act as a trusted advisor to clients, supporting informed decision-making throughout the project lifecycle.
Qualifications, Skills & Experience
* Degree qualified in Engineering, Construction, Utilities, or a related discipline, or able to demonstrate equivalent industry experience.
* Minimum of 8 years’ experience within the utility infrastructure sector, with particular expertise in utility connections, diversions, and network coordination.
* Comprehensive understanding of UK utility regulations, standards, and industry processes.
* Proven track record of successfully managing multiple projects and delivering outcomes within challenging timescales.
* Strong commercial awareness and ability to manage stakeholder expectations effectively.
* Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage confidently at all levels.
* Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and industry-standard design and CAD software.
* Strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritise workloads within a fast-paced environment
