Job Role: Engineer- Tunnelling/Shaft Sinking

Location: Eastleigh

Start: 20/05

Duration: 2-4 months

Are you an experienced Tunnelling Engineer looking for an exciting new role? Barker Ross are currently working with an industry leading and award winning Tunnelling contractor who are looking to expand their workforce due to a vast amount of contracts awarded all over the UK.

Role Responsibility

Carry out briefings as and when required.

Participate in weekly SHE inspections.

Ensure safety, environmental and quality non compliances/best practises are reported to Senior Engineer/Sub Agent.

Completion of detailed shift report recording activities carried out/problems encountered/solutions and innovation during the shift.

Monitoring site material and consumable stocks and reporting deficiencies as required

Maintain a proactive approach to problem solving in conjunction with the site team as required and reporting on solutions found.

Ensuring health and safety is given the highest priority in the delivery of the works.

Be familiar with, and demonstrate commitment to the requirements of the Health & Safety and Environmental Policies

Ensure that the Health Safety and Environmental Policies and Procedures are effectively communicated to the workforce and implemented.

Carry out concrete checks.

Setting out shuttering works

Promoting the pursuit of excellence and continuous improvement, driving innovation, adopting best practice, standard processes, and procedures

Ad hoc duties as required by the job.

The ideal candidate:

Possession of an Engineering Degree

Hands-on experience in diverse construction projects involving multiple disciplines, providing exposure to various shaft sinking and tunnelling techniques.

Proficiency in setting out tasks using different methods such as bearing and distance, coordinates, offsetting, laser, and traditional levelling.

Demonstrated ability to work swiftly and accurately under pressure.

Effective communication skills for collaborating with peers and operatives.

Qualification in Tunnelling/Mining such as an Engineering Degree or HND

Desirable certifications like IOSH or SMSTS

Previous experience with a tunnelling contractor on projects encompassing shaft sinking.

Knowledge and practical application of setting out practices within the shaft sinking and tunnelling domains.

Familiarity with temporary works installation

Basic understanding of cost control principles
