Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced Truck Workshop Controller to oversee the daily operations of our busy workshop. In this role, you will ensure that our service and repair work is completed efficiently and to the highest standards.

Key Responsibilities

Workshop Management

* Coordinate and manage the daily activities of the workshop.

* Allocate work to technicians and monitor progress to ensure timely completion.

* Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with company standards and health and safety regulations.

* Deputise for the Service Manager as required.

* Supervise and support the Service Administration team as required.

* Take ownership of the site to ensure it is kept clean and tidy and it runs in a safe, well organised and efficient manner. Be part of the management team and do whatever is required to assist the profitable running of the business, in a happy well motivated environment. Coordinate technical help, support and training. Ensure Apprentices are appropriately supervised and mentored.

Quality Control

* Ensure regular quality control checks are carried out.

* Address any issues or discrepancies with technicians and ensure corrective actions are taken.

* Maintain a high level of customer satisfaction by ensuring quality workmanship. Organise and take responsibility for pre and post work road test for both diagnostic and quality control purposes. Ensure that all queries and issues are dealt with effectively and within 48 hours.

Scheduling & Planning

* Schedule maintenance and repair work in a way that maximises workshop efficiency.

* Plan and coordinate the use of equipment and resources for both shifts to maximise efficiency, capabilities and to avoid downtime.

* Monitor workflow and adjust schedules as necessary to meet deadlines. Organise pre and post work road testing, quality control and diagnostics. Maximise profitability for all types of sale.

Communication & Reporting

* Ensure that all repairs are authorised prior to the repair taking place, particularly warranty claims where specific and detailed information may be required to obtain authorisation and satisfy warranty rules.

* Liaise with Service Advisors to keep customers informed about the status of their vehicles.

* Prepare and submit reports on workshop performance and productivity.

* Communicate effectively with all members of the workshop team.

* Check and only accept fully completed job cards which have the correct supporting documentation. Write-ups must detail the fault, the cause and full details of the repair carried out, including any oils or consumables used.

* Ensure all inspection and service sheets are fully and correctly completed and signed off on the day of inspection or before the vehicle leaves the premises. Check job cards to ensure the correct charges are made, including time and labour, lubricants and sundry items.

Inventory & Parts Management

* Ensure proper documentation and tracking of parts used in each job.

* Ensure that parts are ordered ahead of the vehicle arrival where possible and prevent the ordering of VOR parts. Utilise pre-pick where practical. Coordinate with the parts department to order and restock supplies as necessary.

Experience & Qualifications

* Proven experience as a Workshop Controller or in a similar role within the automotive industry.

* Strong knowledge of truck maintenance and repair processes.

* Excellent organisational and multitasking abilities.

* Effective communication and leadership skills.

* Proficiency in using workshop management software and systems.

* Attention to detail and a commitment to quality. Technical or vocational qualifications in automotive services are highly desirable.
