Jackson Hogg are delighted to be partnering with a national distribution business in Hartlepool to recruit a Transport Planner.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a busy transport operation where you'll play a key role in ensuring deliveries are planned safely, efficiently, and in line with customer requirements. The successful candidate will be responsible for route optimisation, managing daily transport activities, and responding to operational challenges in real time to maintain service levels across the network.

This role would suit an individual with experience in transport planning, logistics, fleet operations, or route scheduling who enjoys problem-solving in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

* Plan and optimise daily delivery routes to maximise vehicle utilisation and operational efficiency.

* Ensure routes comply with all relevant legislation, including ADR requirements, driver hours regulations, and site-specific restrictions.

* Coordinate tanker and compartment allocations based on product and customer requirements.

* Manage depot replenishment activity in line with operational demand.

* Monitor live transport operations and proactively manage delays, breakdowns, and other disruptions.

* Adjust routes and schedules in real time to maintain service levels and customer commitments.

* Manage same-day orders and urgent delivery requests.

* Maintain effective communication with drivers throughout the working day.

* Liaise with internal stakeholders including Customer Service, Supply Chain, Sales, and Operations teams.

* Escalate operational issues where appropriate and provide timely updates to key stakeholders.

* Monitor transport performance against key operational and service metrics.

* Support continuous improvement initiatives across the transport function.

Desirable Experience

* Previous experience within transport planning, logistics, or fleet operations.

* Knowledge of ADR regulations and hazardous goods transport.

* Understanding of driver hours legislation and transport compliance requirements.

* Experience within tanker, fuel, or distribution operations.

* Familiarity with routing and optimisation software such as Codas or similar systems.
