Description:

Transport Manager / Operations Manager – Working Driver
* Durness, Scottish Highlands
* Full-time | Permanent
* Circa £45,000 per annum + company vehicle
* Relocation to the Durness area required
The Durness Bus Ltd is looking for an experienced, practical and capable Transport Manager / Operations Manager – Working Driver to join our small team in the far north-west Highlands.
This is a senior, hands-on role combining transport management, day-to-day operational responsibility and occasional PCV driving.
It is not a desk-only Transport Manager position.
You will work closely with the owners of the business and play an important part in both the daily operation of our services and the future development of the company.
The role
Your responsibilities will include:
*
supporting the company’s Operator’s Licence and transport compliance responsibilities;
*
day-to-day operational management of scheduled passenger services and other transport work;
*
occasional PCV driving as part of the working role;
*
supporting, managing and communicating with drivers;
*
monitoring drivers’ hours, tachograph and working-time compliance where applicable;
*
vehicle maintenance oversight, defect management and liaison with workshops and suppliers;
*
helping to maintain company policies, procedures, records and risk assessments;
*
recruitment, induction and development of drivers;
*
dealing practically with operational problems, service disruption and changing circumstances;
*
helping to develop our new operating centre and the future operation of the business.
Because we are a small rural operator, this role requires someone who is prepared to be involved directly rather than simply manage from an office.
About you
Ideally, you will already hold:
*
Transport Manager CPC – Passenger Transport
*
Category D PCV driving entitlement
*
Driver CPC
Experience within passenger transport would clearly be valuable, but we are equally interested in people with strong transferable experience from areas such as:
*
transport and logistics;
*
fleet management;
*
coach or bus operations;
*
the Armed Forces;
*
police or emergency services;
*
engineering or vehicle operations;
*
other practical operational-management environments.
We are looking for someone with good judgement, personal responsibility and the confidence to make sensible decisions in a small business where circumstances can change quickly.
You should be comfortable dealing with both people and paperwork, but also willing to get behind the wheel and do the job yourself when required.
An exceptional candidate who does not yet hold every preferred qualification may still be considered. For the right person, we may be prepared to support further training and qualification.
Living and working in Durness
The position is based in Durness, Sutherland, in the far north-west Highlands of Scotland.
This is a genuinely remote location and is not realistically a commuting role. Applicants should therefore be willing and able to relocate to the Durness area.
For the right person, however, this offers an opportunity to build a career and a life in one of the most distinctive parts of the Highlands while becoming an important part of a small, established local transport business.
Salary and benefits
* Circa £45,000 per annum, depending on experience and qualifications.
* A company vehicle is also provided.
* The role is full-time and permanent.
