The Company

We are working with a market leader who are experiencing significant growth. They are looking to add a Transport Manager to their team at the Paignton depot, on a permanent basis.

You will be joining a team of experienced industry professionals with a chance to progress your career within a growing business with an excellent brand reputation. This role gives a chance for someone to lead the Transport function at a blue chip organisation.

The Role

Working Monday-Friday from the Paignton depot, the Transport Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day operations and compliance of the department whilst ensuring employees are motivated, working safely towards a common goal and maximising productivity.

You would be fully accountable for 4 trunk sites located across the South of the UK, with the main hub being based in Paignton Devon. We are looking for someone who really excels at engaging with their people, focusing on getting the best from them at all times.

You would be fully accountable for all people management, legal, operational, health and safety, Food Safety and environmental legislation; whilst achieving the best possible level of service to internal and external customers; with support from your supervisors with the day to day operation

Key Responsibilities

* Lead all areas of the Transport Department to achieve service excellence

* To assist in the production of key performance indicators relating to the Transport Department as required by the Business Unit Director

* Assist in the planning and control all resources within the team to ensure costs are within agreed budgets

* Ensure delivery of excellent customer service and maintain excellent relationships both internally and externally

* Control and maintain of all company equipment, including vehicles, to a high standard to ensure all relevant records are maintained in order to conform within all ministry legislation.

* Maximise vehicle efficiency to minimise costs in terms of kilometres travelled and KPI’S.

* Have robust communication with other departments, to improve customer service and costs in line with budgets.

* Ensure daily Health and Safety checks are completed and all drivers defects reports are completed, checked and actioned daily.

* Ensure all drivers are supported to meet all legal requirements of their role including maintenance of all documentation relating to tachographs, driver hours, working time directive and infringements associated to these.

* Ensure that morale levels within the department are regularly monitored and methods of improving staff communication are identified and delivered and to promote effective teamwork within the transport team.

What We Are Looking For

The Transport Manager will ideally have experience in a similar role and be a forward-thinking individual with attention to detail & the ability to implement change within the transport function.

Ideally you will be/have:

* Experience in a multi-drop fresh produce environment is beneficial.

* Proven ability to lead and motivate transport teams, with excellent people management and employee relation skills

* Previous management experience within a fast moving transport environment.

* National Transport Manager CPC qualification

* Previous experience with planning, distribution software

* Have excellent communication skills both written and verbal.

* Have thorough working knowledge of transport, Food Safety, Health and Safety and Environmental legislation.

* Be able to work with agreed budgets on cost and headcount.

* Be a professional manager with inspirational, motivation and management skills.

* Be proactive and visualise the bigger picture.

* Be a team player within the peer and able to offer ideas and solutions to improve service to our Customers

* Experience in being named on an Operator’s Licence
