Description:

Our client is a specialist provider of railway maintenance and engineering solutions, supporting the rail industry through the delivery of specialist equipment, services and overhaul projects.

They are seeking an experienced Training & Competency Assessor to assess, develop and maintain the technical competence of their workforce. The role will focus on ensuring employees meet the required rail industry standards, identifying training needs and supporting the continuous development of skills across the business. You will work closely with operational teams, line managers and other training professionals to maintain high standards of safety, compliance and technical capability.

Key Responsibilities

Assess employees’ technical knowledge and practical competence against relevant rail industry standards.
Provide feedback, guidance and support to learners to help them achieve required qualifications and competency levels.
Maintain accurate, up-to-date training and competency records and management systems.
Identify skills gaps and work with managers to develop appropriate training and competency plans.
Develop, review and update training materials and assessment processes in line with changing rail industry standards.
Support operational teams in maintaining workforce competence, safety and compliance.
Ensure assessment and quality assurance processes are consistent, effective and audit-ready.
Monitor changes to rail regulations, standards and legislation, implementing updates where required.
Collaborate with assessors, trainers, internal quality teams and HR to share best practice and drive continuous improvement.
Support the ongoing development of the business’s training and competency management systems.
Essential Requirements

GCSE Maths and English at Grade 4/C or equivalent.
NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in a relevant mechanical or technical discipline.
Recognised assessor qualification, such as CAVA, A1 or D32, or willingness to work towards one.
Level 4 Internal Quality Assurance qualification, or willingness to work towards one.
At least three years’ knowledge of rail fleets and technical fleet maintenance.
At least two years’ experience assessing work within a structured and auditable framework.
Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office, Outlook and Teams.
Strong communication, organisational and coaching skills, with the ability to support learners at different levels.
Desirable Experience

Degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant mechanical or technical discipline.
Experience using competency management or learning management systems.
Familiarity with rail industry standards and requirements, including ORR and RSSB guidance.
Experience managing training and competency requirements across multiple technical disciplines.
