Description:

Repair Technician (Trainee) – Northampton

£27,500 per annum | Full Training Provided | Temporary to Permanent role

Got steady hands and an eye for detail? This could be your next career.

We're looking for people with genuine precision skills — whether that's gained on a workbench, at a jeweller's loupe, in a salon, or under the bonnet of a car — to train as Repair Technicians at our client's specialist repair facility in Northampton.

You'll be trained from the ground up to service, restore, and repair high-value instruments, working on optics, tubing, circuitry, camera lenses, and precision-machined parts.

No previous experience needed. What matters most is precision, patience, and the ability to work with small, delicate components.

What You'll Be Doing

Full training on all instrument types — how they work, their specifications, and how to repair them
Examining, testing, and troubleshooting equipment to identify faults
Hands-on repair work using microscopes, soldering irons, grinders, sanders, and polishers
Repairing casings, tubing, circuitry, lenses, and machined parts
Working to strict quality, safety, and ISO standards
Contributing ideas as part of a close-knit, improvement-focused team
What We're Looking For

You have the right hands and the right mindset. We're especially keen to hear from people with experience in:

Watch repair / horology – used to fine tolerances and delicate mechanisms
Jewellery making or repair – skilled with small components and detailed handwork
Nail technicians –Fast, precise, steady-handed work using fine tools
Mobile phone, electronics, or appliance repair – comfortable taking things apart and rebuilding them
Mechanics – naturally curious, good at troubleshooting
Dental lab technicians – precision, small-scale, detail-driven work
Assembly work – confident following detailed instructions and diagrams
If your day-to-day has involved tweezers, a microscope, a soldering iron, or laser welding equipment, we want to hear from you.

You'll Thrive If You Have:

At least 1 year of general work experience
Excellent hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills
Strong attention to detail — you notice things others miss
Comfort with repetitive, precise, methodical work
The ability to read and follow technical diagrams and instructions
A willingness to sit, stand, or bend for extended periods
A disciplined approach to following procedures and quality standards
What You'll Get

A genuinely rare and specialist trade — full training provided
£27,500 starting salary as a trainee
Clear progression from minor to complex repairs as your skills develop
A stable, hands-on career in a growing industry
A supportive team environment built on continuous improvement
Ready to put your precision skills to work in a completely new field? Apply today to Eileen at Select Recruitment — we'd love to hear about the transferable skills you can bring
