The position
This is an exciting opportunity for someone who has a keen interest in Chemistry and wants to be involved in hands on research, development and data analysis. The company is a manufacturer of specialised coatings and the Trainee Quality Control Technician will carry out control testing in line with the test specifications and the customers Quality Assurance Procedures.
Ideal candidates will be people who've got a proven interest in Chemistry (A levels & above)
Duties you will learn and develop
* Conduct quality control testing on raw materials, intermediates and finished goods in line with the relevant test specifications and the companies Quality Assurance Procedures, to include:
*
* Viscosity (e.g. by flow cup / Rotothinner / Brookfield)
* SG
* Solids content
* Application (brush / roller / spray)
* Colour check
* Drying and appearance
* Record all test results and liaise with the senior Q.C. Chemist and production.
* Operate the colour match computer system and provide advice on batch corrections for colour.
* Assist in the operation and maintenance on a daily basis the test equipment such as Hot Salt Spray Equipment, QUV Accelerated Weather-o-meter, and Humidity Cabinet etc..
* Assist with the maintenance of the Quality Control Spray Booth.
* Carry out sample order requests.
* Assist with any investigations regarding quality or performance complaints.
* Conduct or assist in the calibration of all equipment detailed in the Q.A. manual, keep records up-to-date and identify any equipment out of calibration.
* Have a thorough understanding of all Laboratory Quality Control Procedures, Laboratory Machinery and Safety Products.
* Undertake ongoing training to keep up to date with new developments and technologies.
* Comply with any reasonable work request made by the Senior Q.C. Chemist or Senior Management.
