About the company:

My client is a privately owned, leading name within the Highways, Bridges and Civil Engineering sector within England, turning over £105M. Since starting up the company in the late 60’s they have become a very trusted partner with clients within Kent, Essex, Norfolk, Cambridgeshire, East Midlands and Yorkshire. The firm specialises in S278 and S38 works, as well as construction and maintenance work for all types of highway schemes, from minor roads to motorways and major route construction. They also specialise in the bridge infrastructure, utilities and rail. Their projects generally involve plenty of concrete works, deep drainage and major earthworks ranging in value from £2M - £25M.

About the opportunity:

Due to successful company expansion, my client is recruiting permanently for a Trainee Buyer to assistant the buying department in the gathering, analysis and submission of material prices for tender submissions and the physical purchases for live sites.

Based from their office in Huntingdon, you will be responsible for assisting the buying department at tender stage by sending price enquiries for materials to prospective suppliers and analysing responses; building and developing strategic relationships with suppliers; developing an understanding of technical drawings and specifications; and assisting the buying department at live project stage by liaising with suppliers who quoted at tender stage to negotiate and progress quotations provided, attempting to secure the best value for the business.

About the requirements:

In order to be considered for this opportunity, you must hold a HNC or degree in a civil engineering related discipline and live within commutable distance from their office in Huntingdon as this is where the role will be based from. As this is a Trainee level position, previous experience within buying is not necessary however you must be a team player, hold excellent organisational skills, be a clear communicator and be proficient in the use of word, excel and outlook. Skills in Access and SharePoint are desirable although not essential.

About the benefits and rewards:

Work-life balance is massive within this business, despite them being a hands-on contractor they are also modernised, relaxed and truly appreciate their staff. This is all backed up with the very low staff turnover - people on average work for my client for 11 and a half years, showing people stay once they join. One of the reasons people stay with my client is because of their friendly, un corporate culture and the fantastic training and career development opportunities they provide to their employees,

With regards to the salary on offer, this has been left negotiable as specifics will depend on previous experience and suitability. You will receive 26 days annual leave, which is exclusive of bank holidays, and you will be enrolled on to the company pension scheme.

This is a great opportunity for a motivated individual to join a forward thinking, reputable contractor within the civil engineering market, where you will be offered full training and the support to kick start your career within the construction industry.
