Description:

The business is a leading provider of smoke, heat and carbon monoxide detectors to the retail and trade sectors both in the UK and Europe.

This role is to provide verification of the design for components and products as part of the engineering V-model. The validation team works to deliver products ready of certification. The products are then sent third party test houses for external certification. Due to the safety critical nature of the product it is essential that the products are always operating in a manner to comply to the local legal standards.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Working closely with a number of key stakeholders across the business, the jobholder will need to:

Undertaking validation of new products to the agreed specifications.
Contributing to the validation of existing designs in-line with production and certification requirements.
Generating Failure reports and liaising with other engineering disciplines in the evaluation of failures.
Undertaking testing and characterisation of existing and new components.
Compiling test results and generating test reports.
Diagnostics and fault finding on products, to component level.
Design and manufacture of test fixtures or equipment to support validation, test and development.
Creation and implementation of test process and procedures to support validation activities.
Management and maintenance of test equipment.
Undertaking work in accordance with the agreed project timescales.
Contributing to process and product improvement by providing feedback to development and manufacturing teams.
Helping to ensure the department maintains consistent levels of quality their work and processes.
Contributing to the development of our processes to ensure we strive for Best Ever Quality in-line to our company's strategic goals.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Required:

BTech level 4/HNC/HND in electronics with certificates to support.
At least 5 years' experience in a test or electronics engineering field.
Ability to read schematics and understand and diagnose failed electronic assemblies.
Extensive knowledge of engineering and testing procedures.
Working understanding of electronics, datasheets, and device capabilities.
Working understanding of electronics lab equipment, including oscilloscopes, soldering stations (0201, 0402), DMM, signal generators and frequency analysers.
Strong technical writing skills and a working knowledge of Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
A good communicator with the ability to present results clearly and concisely in validation review meetings.
Ability to project manage.
Strong Analytical skills - able to identify solutions and methodically implement them.

Desired:

Electronics Degree or higher education qualification.
Experience of working on long life battery powered products.
Experience of working on safety critical products in regulated environment.
Experience of working on projects utilising gas sensing technologies.
A good understanding of common data capture software such as Tera term, real term.
Experience of EMC testing.
Experience of leading a small team and day to day management of their task.
Experience of external certification processes.
Experience of working within LCM software, ideally ARAS.

Strong technical electronic skills.
Able to clearly communicate results in reports, presentations and in person
