One of our local authority clients are currently recruiting for a Tenant and Landlord Engagement Officer. This is a temporary contract for 3 months with possible further extension based on budget and performance.
Main Purpose of Post/Job Summary
The Council is seeking to renew and expand their property licensing schemes. Improving their private rented sector cannot happen by regulation alone and they need to increase proactive engagement with good landlords and tenants and residents’ groups. This role is a crucial part of their corporate plan and to drive the Council’s corporate priority to provide a safe place called home and stand up for private renters.
Duties and Responsibilities
* Developing opportunities across the council to engage with tenants and landlords with the aim of improving the management of privately rented homes in the borough.
* Providing advice, advocacy, and assistance to tenants on their rights and responsibilities and landlords/letting agents on their rights and obligations.
* Organising meetings, groups and other platforms with internal and external stakeholders involved in private rented housing to promote good practise in rented accommodation. Including establishing and promoting our Landlords Forum.
* Leading on consultation & research to identify & assess the views & priorities of stakeholders with the aim of developing strategies for landlord and tenant engagement.
* Playing a proactive role in the development of policies and procedures that impact on private sector tenants and landlords.
* Identifying external funding opportunities & ensure timely bids are made to maximise resources available.
* Initiating campaigns and publicity locally and link with those nationally concerning the private rented sector to promote quality, safety, and security in private rented sector housing.
* Designing new ways to engage with landlords and tenants and make recommendations to the management team.
* Acting as the authority’s expert in matters of landlord and tenant law, carry out casework and provide support to tenants to ensure their rights are protected.
