Temporary Senior Project Manager

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

To support the delivery of a projects service through a locally based project team and specialist supply chain partners. To support the delivery process, end to end for all project works (small works, minor works, life-cycle works and medium, high value projects).

The Project Manager will be required to deal with a wide variety of people including clients, suppliers, commercial colleagues and the wider team.

The Project Manager will be responsible for establishing and maintaining a strong rapport with clients, contractors, and other stakeholders. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and time management skills and strong attention to detail.

The Project Manager will have responsibility for circa 12-15 concurrent small schemes at any one time ranging in value from £10k - £1m. They will need to have good construction technical knowledge that can be applied to a diverse range of projects including education, leisure, historic buildings, community buildings, libraries, minor civil engineering, M&E installations and upgrades, asbestos removal and demolition/regeneration alongside new build and refurbishment works.

THE PERSON

You need an eye for detail, whether its number on a spreadsheet, works on site, internal reports or client meetings.

We are a small team, we work together, helping each other with issues and bouncing ideas around, its key the successful candidate fits without team.

We deal with a small number of clients, relationships are key. While there are times need to challenge the client, more often than not we need to ensure we are acting on their behalf; they trust us with their project delivery. Its key we all get on.

Detail in key in what we do, with project delivery there is a lot of information flow. We need to review and challenge this information to ensure what we do is correct. We also work heavily on the commercial aspects of the project, the devil is in the detail.

DUTIES:

* To lead each project, having complete responsibility for the delivery, including compliance with the project procedures. The project manager needs to have a strong commercial understanding of JCT contract form

* Ensure all works are carried out safely and inline with company standards.

* Our clients often need an understanding of what the project will potentially cost, at each stage the PM needs to build a cost plan. Understanding of how they work and the ability to build one is key

* Self-manage and balance the projects under their management, ensuring the key dates are achieved

* Manage consultants, clients and contractors. Ensuring a collective approach, but challenge when needed

* Review works once commenced on site, ensure the works are monitored against programme, valuations are reviewed, ensure quality is managed

* To lead on project planning, setting project goals and objectives, determining timelines, defining tasks and outline resources necessary to successfully complete the project

* To monitor the progress of projects, including addressing issues that may arise and ensuring project deliverables are completed on time

* To organise and attend regular status and review meetings as necessary, including generating and distributing meeting minutes and action logs. To regularly provide progress reports to management and relevant stakeholders reporting on the progress of the project, challenges, resolutions, and alterations.

* To manage clients expectations in terms of budget, expectations of finish, and timescales.

* To prepare and manage project risk registers, identifying potential risks and constraints and determining mitigating actions, managing risks to negate as far as reasonably practicable, disruption to the project.

* You will oversee all incoming and outgoing project documentation, including managing contracts

* Have a good knowledge of CDM and how this impacts project delivery.

* To manage project budgets/costs, contribute to ensuring the CVR is maintained up to date, support the management of WIP/Cash and prepare accurate financial forecasts and reports

* To participate in designing, submitting and reviewing formal and informal tenders

* You will conduct project reviews, including creating detailed reports for executive staff and identifying areas for future improvement and will as required conduct value engineering exercises.

* To ensure all project deliverables, deadlines, and client expectations are met

* To work in compliance with a quality management system and support the improvement of processes.

* To present reports on your projects inline with the management strategy.

* To ensure the projects are commercially managed, including agreeing a closing final accounts.

* Ensure project compliance with business processes

SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS/COMPETENCIES:

* Recognised degree level qualification Project Management or equivalent business/technical qualification
* Demonstrated expertise in project management through all phases of a project life cycle
* Working knowledge of Microsoft operating systems and programs including expertise with project management software
* Excellent interpersonal skills both verbal and written, experienced in negotiation, conflict resolution and an ability to effectively collaborate with internal and external stakeholders
* Highly organized with excellent attention to detail
* Ability to present technical information clearly and concisely at a level appropriate to the target audience
* Ability to solve problems by systematically analysing issues, drawing logical conclusions, and recommending practical solutions
* Ability to prioritize and manage the workload of multiple projects
