Senior Telecoms Design Engineer

Location: Ashby-de-la-Zouch, Derby, Chippenham, York, Manchester, Glasgow or Croydon (flexible)

Sector: Rail Infrastructure

Contract - Outside IR35

We are recruiting for an experienced Senior Telecoms Design Engineer to join a major rail telecommunications portfolio, supporting the delivery of operational communications systems across mainline rail, light rail and mass transit projects.

This is an excellent opportunity for a telecoms engineering professional looking to play a leading role in the design, development and implementation of telecoms solutions within a complex, safety-critical railway environment.

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading telecoms engineering activities, managing design deliverables and ensuring projects are delivered to the highest standards of quality, safety and performance.

Key Responsibilities

Deliver telecoms engineering designs and associated activities in line with agreed time, cost, quality and safety requirements.
Lead telecoms engineering tasks to support system development, integration and implementation.
Produce technical engineering documentation and Health & Safety deliverables to meet project requirements.
Plan, coordinate and manage telecoms engineering activities, resources and equipment to ensure efficient project delivery.
Monitor and report engineering progress, performance and status to project stakeholders.
Support project estimating and tender activities, including engineering resource planning, risk identification and technology assessments.
Ensure compliance with applicable engineering standards, processes, procedures and tools throughout the engineering lifecycle.
Deliver work in accordance with company Safety and Quality Management Systems and all relevant industry legislation and standards.
Ensure compliance with customer health and safety requirements across rail, light rail and mass transit environments.
Undertake the role of Telecoms Design CRE (Contractor's Responsible Engineer) or Lead Designer on smaller-scale projects.
Identify and communicate project scope changes and associated impacts.
Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients, suppliers, partners and internal stakeholders.Candidate Requirements

We are keen to speak with candidates who have:

Significant experience in railway telecoms design and engineering.
Strong knowledge of operational communications systems within the rail sector.
Experience leading telecoms engineering activities and multidisciplinary project interfaces.
A thorough understanding of rail industry standards, engineering processes and safety requirements.
Experience producing and reviewing technical design documentation.
Strong planning, organisational and stakeholder management skills.
Experience acting as a Telecoms Design CRE or Lead Designer would be highly advantageous.
