Technical Sales Engineer
Location: UK - Remote (Regular UK Travel)
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Technical Sales Engineer to join a specialist electronics organisation supplying and manufacturing high-reliability electronic components for demanding applications across aerospace, defence, space, rail, industrial, audio and other harsh-environment markets.
The company has over 50 years of technical expertise and provides a broad portfolio of passive, interconnect, power, magnetic, optoelectronic, semiconductor and electromechanical components. Working with leading manufacturers and customers across highly regulated industries, the business combines strong technical knowledge with a consultative approach to customer support and design-in activity.
This is a customer-facing technical sales role supporting customers and internal sales teams across the UK. The successful candidate will provide technical guidance on component selection, support customer design activity, identify new business opportunities and help develop long-term customer relationships.
This role would suit a technically minded sales professional with an electronic or electrical engineering background and experience within electronic components, applications engineering, technical sales or product support.
Main Responsibilities of the Technical Sales Engineer (UK):
Provide technical and commercial support to customers across the UK
Act as a technical resource for internal and external sales teams
Support customer design activity, qualification projects and design-in opportunities
Attend customer meetings, site visits, exhibitions and supplier visits
Provide application-level guidance and support component selection activities
Identify and develop new business opportunities across existing and prospective accounts
Support key franchise growth initiatives and supplier development plans
Work closely with internal sales, product management, quality, engineering and supplier contacts
Support supplier presentations, training sessions and joint customer visits
Maintain accurate records of opportunities, customer activity, visit reports and forecasts within company systems
Provide feedback on market trends, customer requirements, competitor activity and emerging technologies
Support opportunity development and conversion through a consultative, solutions-led approach
Requirements of the Technical Sales Engineer (UK):
Proven experience within technical sales, applications engineering, field sales engineering or product specialist roles within the electronic components industry
Strong technical understanding of electronic and/or electromechanical components and their applications
Experience supporting customer design activity and developing technical opportunities
Ability to communicate effectively with engineering, procurement and commercial stakeholders
Strong commercial awareness with the ability to identify opportunities, support price negotiations and convert business
Ability to work independently whilst collaborating effectively with wider teams
Full UK Driving Licence and willingness to travel regularly across the UK
Experience supporting customers within aerospace, defence, space, rail, industrial, audio or other high-reliability sectorsExperience within one or more of the following technology areas would be highly advantageous:
Passive Components
Ceramic, Electrolytic, MLCC, Film and Tantalum Capacitors
Composite, Foil, Thin-Film, Thick-Film and Wirewound Resistors
Magnetics, Inductors, Transformers and Ferrite Components
Encapsulated Power Supplies
Circuit Breakers, Contactors and Thermostats
EMC Components, Filters and Shielding
RF Components and Resonators
Current, Temperature, Pressure, Flow and Optical Sensors
High-Reliability Semiconductors, ICs and Oscillators
Desirable:
Degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering or a related subject
Familiarity with qualification standards and approvals within Aerospace, Defence and Space
Experience working with franchised manufacturers and supplier networks
Understanding of defence, aerospace or high-reliability supply chains
Established relationships with major UK Aerospace, Defence or Space customers
Experience designing for high-reliability and harsh-environment applications
Experience supporting technically complex design-in programmes
