Description:

A leading regional contractor is seeking an experienced Technical (Design) Manager to lead the delivery and design coordination of social housing and residential construction projects across South Wales. Working closely with the Construction Director, project teams, consultants, clients, and specialist subcontractors, you will manage the design process from feasibility and tender through construction, commissioning, handover, and aftercare, ensuring projects are compliant, buildable, cost-effective, and delivered to programme. This is an excellent opportunity to join a leading regional contractor and play a key role in delivering high-quality residential developments across Wales, working with a collaborative team committed to safe, sustainable, and well-designed homes.

Key Responsibilities

*

* Lead design development and coordinate architectural, structural, civil engineering, fire safety and building services design.

* Manage technical information, design programmes, approvals, risk registers, and design change control.

* Ensure compliance with Welsh Building Regulations, planning conditions, housing standards, and client specifications.

* Coordinate statutory approvals, infrastructure, sustainable drainage (SuDS) and building safety requirements.

* Work with commercial and construction teams to manage design costs, procurement interfaces, buildability, and value engineering.

* Monitor construction quality, resolve technical issues and ensure appropriate inspection, testing and compliance evidence.

* Oversee commissioning, completion documentation, handover, and aftercare, driving continuous improvement across projects.

You will have:

*

* A relevant degree, HNC/HND in construction, architecture, engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.

* Proven experience in technical or design management within residential construction, ideally including affordable housing and housing association developments in Wales.

* Strong knowledge of Building Regulations, residential fire safety, design risk management and construction quality assurance.

* Experience coordinating multidisciplinary design teams, consultants and specialist subcontractors.

* Excellent organisational, communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and deliver results across multiple projects.

* A proactive approach to compliance, buildability, risk management and continuous improvement.

* Professional membership or progression towards chartership is desirable
