Description:

Technical Controller - Major Construction Projects

Location: London / UK Projects
Salary: Competitive salary + package
Sector: Main Contracting / Construction
Employment Type: Permanent

The Opportunity

We are working with a leading international main contractor in their construction division and looking to appoint an experienced Technical Controller to support its growing portfolio of projects.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Quantity Surveyor with strong cost management and reporting skills who wants to develop their career in a specialist role combining commercial management, project controls and financial performance.

The business is backed by an established international construction group but offers an entrepreneurial working environment, with the opportunity to help shape systems, processes and reporting structures as its operations continue to grow.

The successful candidate will work closely with Project Managers and Commercial Managers, taking ownership of project cost reporting, budget monitoring and performance analysis to ensure projects remain commercially controlled throughout delivery.

This isn't simply a reporting position. We're looking for someone who can identify potential issues early, challenge project information and work proactively with delivery teams to improve project performance.

Key Responsibilities

Work alongside project delivery and commercial teams to establish and maintain accurate project budgets and cost forecasts.

Prepare, manage and analyse monthly Cost Value Reconciliation (CVR) reports.

Monitor project costs, productivity and financial performance, identifying potential risks and deviations from budget.

Track construction progress and installed quantities against programme and forecast expenditure.

Work closely with Project Managers and Commercial Managers to understand project performance and recommend corrective actions.

Support the development and implementation of cost-control procedures and reporting systems.

Produce accurate monthly project reports for senior management.

Liaise with finance and commercial teams to reconcile costs, accruals and project expenditure.

Support pre-construction teams with cost information, budget development and lessons learned from live projects.

Assist with internal reporting, governance requirements and audit processes.

Contribute to the development of improved reporting systems, digital tools and new technologies across the business.

About You

We are particularly interested in speaking with experienced Quantity Surveyors who have a strong understanding of how construction projects operate commercially and financially.

Ideally, you will have:

5+ years' experience in Quantity Surveying, ideally with a Tier 1 or Tier 2 main contractor.

Strong experience producing and analysing CVRs, cost reports and project forecasts.

A good understanding of construction programmes, project delivery and cost management.

Experience monitoring site progress, productivity and installed quantities.

The ability to identify cost discrepancies and work with project teams to resolve them.

Strong communication skills and the confidence to engage with Project Managers, Commercial Managers and senior leadership.

Good knowledge of construction reporting systems, Excel and commercial software.

An interest in digital innovation, advanced reporting tools and the practical use of AI within construction.

A relevant qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Civil Engineering or a related discipline.

Previous experience in a dedicated Project Controls or Technical Controlling role would be beneficial, but isn't essential. We are equally interested in experienced Quantity Surveyors looking to move into this specialism.

What's on Offer?

The opportunity to join a growing division of a major construction group.

A specialist career path combining Quantity Surveying, project controls and commercial performance.

Involvement in major construction projects with exposure to senior operational and commercial leadership.

The chance to influence how project reporting, cost management and internal processes are developed.

Opportunities to work with new construction technologies, digital systems and AI-driven improvements.

A collaborative environment where your experience and ideas can make a genuine difference.

Competitive salary and benefits package.

Interested?

If you're an experienced Quantity Surveyor who enjoys understanding the detail behind project performance and wants to take your career in a different direction, we'd be keen to speak with you.
