Teaching Assistant – SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health Needs)

Location - Cardiff

Sector - Additional Needs - 11 to 18 years old

Pay rate - £84.50 - £100 per day (based on experience)

Duration - Long-term and school term time only (Monday – Friday, 8:30am – 3pm)

We are seeking a teaching assistant to work full-time and long-term within a special needs school for male pupils aged between 11 and 18 years old with complex social, emotional, and behavioural needs. This is a fantastic opportunity to work at unique school that actively advocates outdoor learning, has a therapeutic approach to education and ensures that each pupil feels supported and valued. This position has the potential to turn into a permanent role.

There is an opportunity to support pupils in various subjects, including but not limited to life skills, building/construction and mechanics. A previous background within these areas would be an advantage.

Responsibilities:

* Work within a small class to support pupils with social, emotional, and mental health needs, including challenging behaviour.

* Support pupils in enhancing self-esteem and social interaction skills.

* Encourage pupils to take pride in their achievements and celebrate them.

* Assist pupils to managing their behaviour, emotions, and frustration.

* Collaborate closely with other members of teaching staff.

Requirements:

* Experience of working with student with challenging behaviour and/or pupils with SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health Needs) within the last 3 years.

* Strong behaviour management skills and communication skills.

* Flexibility to adapt to the needs of the schools and its pupils.

* Ability to build positive relationships with both pupils and staff.
