About the Role

We are looking for a caring, enthusiastic and committed Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in the Vale of Glamorgan.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys working with children and is passionate about supporting their learning, development and wellbeing.

Working alongside the class teacher and wider school team, you will help create a positive, engaging and inclusive learning environment where children feel confident, supported and encouraged to achieve their potential.

You will provide support within the classroom, as well as through individual and small-group activities. The role will involve helping pupils develop key academic, social and personal skills while encouraging independence, confidence and positive attitudes towards learning.

Key Responsibilities

Support the class teacher with engaging and age-appropriate learning activities.
Provide one-to-one and small-group support where required.
Help pupils develop their reading, writing, phonics and numeracy skills.
Support children across a range of subjects and classroom activities.
Encourage pupils to participate positively and confidently in their learning.
Promote independence, confidence and positive behaviour.
Provide encouragement, reassurance and positive reinforcement throughout the school day.
Help maintain effective classroom routines and organisation.
Prepare and organise classroom resources and learning materials.
Observe pupils and share relevant feedback with the class teacher.
Build positive and professional relationships with pupils and staff.
Provide appropriate support to pupils who may require additional help with their learning or development.
Assist with classroom organisation and general school activities.
Contribute to a safe, welcoming, inclusive and stimulating learning environment.
Follow school policies and procedures, particularly those relating to safeguarding and pupil wellbeing.

We Are Looking For Someone Who

Has previous experience working with children, ideally within a school, nursery, childcare or similar setting.
Is enthusiastic, patient, caring and committed to supporting children's development.
Has a good understanding of the needs of primary-aged children.
Is confident supporting individuals and small groups.
Has a calm, positive and nurturing approach.
Can communicate effectively with pupils, teachers, parents and colleagues.
Is able to encourage positive behaviour and engagement with learning.
Can adapt their approach to meet the needs of different pupils.
Is organised, reliable and able to use their own initiative.
Works well as part of a team and is also confident working independently.
Is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
Experience supporting pupils with additional learning needs would be an advantage but is not essential.

Requirements

To be considered for this role, you will need:

Previous experience working with children is desirable.
Education Workforce Council (EWC) registration as a Teaching Assistant, or willingness to apply where required.
An Enhanced DBS Certificate registered on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.
A commitment to safeguarding and promoting children's wellbeing.
