Job Requirements of this Teaching Assistant job in Walsall

A Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) providing support and education to students who have been permanently excluded from mainstream schools. Supporting pupils with a range of needs, including social and emotional difficulties that may impact their learning. A school committed to providing a safe and nurturing environment where every student can thrive and succeed academically and personally.

Role Requirements:

Experience working with children and young people with social and emotional difficulties, preferably in a PRU or similar setting.

Ability to engage effectively with challenging and vulnerable learners, demonstrating patience, empathy, and understanding.

Strong behaviour management skills and the ability to de-escalate challenging situations calmly and professionally.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build positive relationships with students, colleagues, and external stakeholders.

Flexibility and adaptability to meet the diverse needs of students and support their educational and emotional development.

Qualifications or Certificates:

A relevant Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification is preferred.

Additional training or certifications in behaviour management, safeguarding, and/or supporting children with social and emotional difficulties would be advantageous.

Experience:

Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant or in a similar role within a PRU or alternative provision setting is highly desirable.

Experience implementing behaviour support plans and individualised interventions to support student progress and well-being.

Familiarity with curriculum frameworks and strategies to support the educational attainment of Key Stage 1 to 4 students.
