Job Requirements of this Teaching Assistant job in Walsall

Experience working with students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs is essential.

Ability to support students in managing their emotions and behaviour effectively.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build rapport with students, staff, and parents.

Patience, empathy, and resilience to work with challenging behaviours.

Understanding of special educational needs and the ability to adapt teaching strategies accordingly.

Willingness to work collaboratively with teachers and other professionals to create a supportive learning environment.

Qualifications or Certificates:

Minimum of a Level 2 Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent is preferred.

Relevant safeguarding training and knowledge of child protection procedures.

Any additional qualifications or training related to supporting SEMH students would be advantageous.

Experience:

Prior experience working as a Teaching Assistant in a SEMH school or similar setting is highly desirable.

Experience implementing behaviour management strategies and supporting students with emotional regulation.

Familiarity with Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and ability to support students in achieving their learning goals.

Experience working with young people with diverse needs and backgrounds.

Brief Overview of the Role:

The role involves working with students aged 11 to 16 years old.

The Teaching Assistant will provide individual and small group support to students with SEMH needs, assisting them in accessing the curriculum and developing essential life skills.

Responsibilities include implementing behaviour support plans, facilitating social and emotional learning activities, and providing academic support as directed by the teaching staff.
