Secondary Teaching Assistant - SEMH & Alternative Provision
Monarch Education is recruiting on behalf of a specialist Secondary Alternative Provision in Telford for enthusiastic and resilient Teaching Assistants to join their team from September.
This setting supports young people aged 11-16 who have faced challenges in mainstream education. Pupils may present with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, challenging behaviour, trauma-related needs, ADHD, ASD, and other additional learning needs.
This is an excellent opportunity for a Teaching Assistant who is passionate about helping vulnerable young people re-engage with education and achieve positive outcomes.
The Role
As a Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and pastoral staff to support pupils both academically and emotionally.
Your responsibilities will include:
Supporting pupils on a 1:1 and small group basis
Building positive and professional relationships with young people
Supporting students with SEMH and behavioural needs
Promoting positive behaviour and emotional regulation
Helping pupils engage with learning and achieve their goals
Acting as a positive role model within the classroom
Assisting with behaviour management and de-escalation strategies
Supporting students who may have experienced trauma or disrupted education
Requirements
To be considered, candidates must have:
Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant in a school setting
Strong behaviour management skills
Excellent spoken and written English
Confidence supporting secondary-aged pupils with SEMH and behavioural needs
A calm, patient and resilient approach
The ability to build trust and establish professional boundaries with students
