The Role

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work directly with pupils requiring specialist support, including those with Autism and additional learning needs. Your input will help adapt classroom activities, ensure pupils are included and engaged, and build trusting relationships to help students thrive and reach greater independence throughout the school day. Collaboration with class teachers and SEND specialists is central to success in this role.

Responsibilities

Deliver 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEND
Help pupils access lessons and classroom activities confidently
Adapt resources and activities to individual abilities and needs
Encourage communication, interaction and ongoing engagement
Promote confidence, independence, and emotional wellbeing
Support positive behaviour and maintain established classroom routines
Follow individual support plans and EHCP outcomes
Help maintain safeguarding, safety, and inclusive learning environments 

Skills and Experience

Minimum 6 months’ experience supporting children or young people with SEND
Experience with Autism is highly desirable
Previous work in mainstream or specialist education settings
Confident supporting pupils both 1:1 and in small groups
Flexible, patient and nurturing approach
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service or willing to obtain one
Ability to provide references covering your most recent 24 months
