Salary: £19,904 per year

Teach Now is seeking a resilient and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant – SEMH to join a supportive specialist school for boys aged 11–16. This is an excellent opportunity to help young people overcome barriers to learning and develop academically, socially and emotionally.
The successful SEN Teaching Assistant will initially work within the classroom, supporting teachers to create a calm, structured and inclusive learning environment.
The role
As an SEN Teaching Assistant – SEMH, you will:
• Support students during lessons, both individually and in small groups.
• Help pupils understand tasks and remain focused and engaged.
• Adapt your approach to individual learning, communication and emotional needs.
• Support emotional regulation, confidence and resilience.
• Build positive relationships while maintaining clear and consistent boundaries.
• Reinforce positive behaviour and classroom expectations.
• Support classroom routines, organisation and transitions.
• Monitor engagement and share relevant observations with teaching and pastoral staff.
• Encourage pupils to become more independent in their learning.
• Contribute to a safe, calm and supportive school environment.
About you
The successful candidate will:
• Be patient, resilient and genuinely passionate about supporting young people with SEMH needs.
• Remain calm and professional when pupils are experiencing difficulties.
• Understand the importance of consistency, structure and positive relationships.
• Communicate confidently and work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Be committed to safeguarding and promoting pupil welfare.
• Have the right to work in the UK.
Previous experience in an SEMH school is highly desirable. However, candidates with relevant experience supporting young people with additional needs or behaviours that challenge will also be considered.
