In each case we work on for the local authority, there is a designated teacher whom the Teaching Assistants will report to and collaborate with and collectively your aim as a team is to help teach the young person life skills and prepare them for adult life - this will be a mixture of supporting them in the home and within the community.

You will be collaborating with pupils who exhibit a diverse array of intricate needs, including cognitive and behavioural challenges. All these students carry diagnoses of Severe Learning Disabilities (SLD) or Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD). While some may already have designated care workers who will support alongside the education team, our staff members may also engage in providing personal care as required. The age range for these pupils is 15-19, and they are unable to attend a traditional school environment, typically due to the severity of their needs or exclusion from a special needs setting. As part of your new team of three, your collective goal will be to address the individual needs of each child in alignment with the objectives outlined in their Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCP). You will receive guidance and mentorship from a team of seasoned professionals with extensive experience in the field.

This role is a unique, challenging but exciting opportunity for you to expand on your skillset from both an education and social care perspective. With on-the-job training provided in subjects such as Challenging Behaviour training and Breakaway and Self-protection training, this opportunity really does help you move your career to the next level.
