Can you bring current affairs to life in the classroom and give pupils the confidence to engage in civic society?
A progressive and inclusive secondary school is seeking a dedicated Citizenship Teacher to join its established Humanities department. This role provides an excellent opportunity to link learning with the wider world, develop pupils' critical thinking and show them how they can play an active part in modern society.
The school is looking for a creative teacher who can make Citizenship meaningful through engaging lessons, open and balanced discussion, and thought-provoking topics, supporting pupils to develop informed opinions and act responsibly.

The Role
You will deliver Citizenship across Key Stages 3 and 4, providing purposeful lessons that develop the knowledge, decision-making skills and practical understanding pupils will need beyond school.

Your main responsibilities will include:

Planning and delivering meaningful lessons that engage and motivate pupils.
Teaching a broad range of civic and social topics, including Parliament, public bodies, justice, the law, political engagement, rights, identity, communities and global issues.
Leading well-structured debates and discussions that encourage pupils to consider contemporary issues from a range of viewpoints.
Developing pupils' confidence, resilience, independence and responsibility towards others.
Applying assessment effectively to monitor progress, address learning gaps and support ambitious achievement.
Maintaining an inclusive and respectful classroom where every pupil feels able to take part.
Contributing to curriculum development and creating opportunities for learning outside scheduled lessons.
Promoting British Values while broadening pupils' understanding of equality, diversity and inclusion.
Providing hands-on learning through forums, mock elections, community initiatives and awareness campaigns.
Working collaboratively with colleagues across the school to support shared objectives and pupils' pastoral needs.

To succeed in this role, you will:

Hold QTS or an accepted equivalent qualification.
Have a degree in a relevant area such as Politics, Law, Sociology, History, Citizenship or a related Humanities subject.
Demonstrate strong subject knowledge and a genuine dedication to excellent citizenship education.
Be able to inspire pupils with a wide range of abilities, needs and backgrounds.
Communicate effectively and create a calm, focused learning environment.
Maintain high standards and strive to raise achievement and aspirations for all pupils.
Contribute enthusiasm and original ideas to lesson delivery and curriculum design.
Have a thorough understanding of safeguarding responsibilities and prioritise pupils' wellbeing at all times.
Be willing to contribute positively to the wider life of the school.
The school offers:

A welcoming environment with a strong sense of mutual support among staff and pupils.
A collaborative Humanities department where colleagues plan and deliver together.
Well-defined opportunities for ongoing professional development and career progression.
Modern, well-resourced classrooms with access to current teaching materials.
Meaningful wellbeing support and encouragement of a healthy, manageable workload.
Opportunities to lead extracurricular clubs, pupil voice initiatives and links with the local community.
A school culture that celebrates creativity, inclusion and achievement.
