Description:

ALink Recruitment are working with a well-established and fast-paced structural engineering consultancy based in central London, near Kings Cross Station. Bringing over 30 years of expertise to the London residential and small-to-medium commercial markets, they pride ourselves on consulting closely with our clients, architects and surveyors to deliver high-quality engineering designs and structural assessments.

Our diverse range of projects includes:

* Rear and side extensions, loft conversions and basements

* Structural refurbishment and structural beam design

* Structural inspections, reporting, subsidence investigations and cracking/movement diagnosis

* New-build domestic and small commercial structures

The Role

We are seeking an experienced and qualified Structural Engineer. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in conducting structural inspections across London and producing comprehensive, professional follow-up reports.

This is a senior-level position requiring a high level of expertise, autonomy and professional judgement.

Key Responsibilities

* Conduct thorough structural inspections and surveys on both residential and commercial buildings within the London area.

* Assess structural integrity, identify defects, diagnose cracking, movement or subsidence issues, and determine necessary repairs or structural remedial measures.

* Write clear, concise and detailed follow-up structural reports in plain English, ensuring they meet professional standards and are suitable for clients, insurers and local authorities.

* Liaise professionally with a diverse range of stakeholders, including clients, architects, insurers and contractors.

* Manage your own schedule, inspection pipeline and report deadlines efficiently, in conjunction with the Practice Manager.

Candidate Requirements

Qualifications and Experience

* Degree: BEng or MEng in Civil or Structural Engineering.

* Professional status: Ideally a Chartered Structural/Civil Engineer (MIStructE or MICE).

* Experience: Proven, extensive background in structural inspections/surveying and reporting, specifically within the London residential and commercial sectors.

* Seniority: Minimum 10 years of experience working at a senior level.

* Reporting portfolio: Able to provide redacted examples of structural inspections/reports you have written.

Skills and Core Competencies

* Deep understanding of structural behaviour, failure mechanisms and remedial engineering techniques.

* Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to translate complex technical findings into clear, jargon-free reports, letters or emails.

* Self-motivated, highly organised and capable of working autonomously with minimal supervision.

* Familiarity with standard structural analysis principles. Knowledge of software such as Eurobeam, Tekla, Tedds and AutoCAD would be beneficial.

Benefits and Working Conditions

* Hours: 40 hours per week, including a 30-minute daily lunch.

* Flexible and hybrid working: Flexible start and finish times around core hours of 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, with options to regularly work from home. The focus is on delivery, efficiency and budget.

* Location: Based out of a central London office, with regular site visits across London.

* Professional development: Direct collaboration with senior leadership and full support for continuing professional development (CPD), including coverage of relevant professional institution membership fees.

* Travelcard: Included in the package for all work-related travel
