Supplier Quality Engineer Overview:

✅ Own supplier quality performance across a varied engineering supply base
✅ Lead supplier audits, NCRs, corrective actions and improvement activity

✅ Work closely with Procurement, Engineering and Quality on supplier approval and NPI
✅ Reduce supplier-related defects by solving issues at source rather than relying on inspection

This Supplier Quality Engineer role is with an established engineering manufacturer in Downton, supporting a regulated supply chain across raw materials, manufactured components and specialist subcontract processes. The Supplier Quality Engineer will take ownership of supplier quality performance, approvals, audits, corrective actions and development activity, working closely with Procurement, Engineering, Quality and external suppliers.

The role needs someone who is comfortable challenging suppliers, investigating root causes and driving lasting improvements rather than simply containing issues after delivery.

The Supplier Quality Engineer role

As Supplier Quality Engineer, you’ll manage an assigned supplier portfolio and help ensure externally supplied products and processes meet the required technical, quality and traceability standards. You’ll support supplier selection, qualification, surveillance and improvement, while also getting involved in NPI and supplier readiness before manufacture begins.

This Supplier Quality Engineer position suits someone who combines strong quality knowledge with the confidence to work directly with suppliers on audits, investigations, documentation and corrective action.

Day-to-day responsibilities of a Supplier Quality Engineer

Monitor supplier performance across quality, NCRs, rejects, concessions and agreed KPIs
Conduct supplier audits and capability assessments
Lead investigations into supplier-related non-conformances and quality escapes
Raise and manage Supplier Corrective Action Requests through to effective closure
Review 8D, 5 Why and root cause responses and challenge weak corrective actions
Support supplier approval, qualification and Approved Supplier List activity
Review FAIRs and associated documentation against AS9102 requirements
Check certificates, material records, traceability and supporting quality documentation
Support approval and control of suppliers providing specialist subcontract processes
Visit suppliers to investigate issues, verify actions and review manufacturing processes
Work with Procurement and Engineering during supplier selection and NPI
Review drawings, specifications and customer quality requirements with suppliers
Support customer complaints and audits where supplier quality is involved
Produce supplier quality reports and highlight risks, trends and improvement actionsWhat they’re looking for - Supplier Quality Engineer

Experience in Supplier Quality, Quality Engineering, Supplier Development or a related role
Background in aerospace, defence, precision engineering or another regulated manufacturing environment
Working knowledge of AS9100 / EN 9100 and ISO9001
Experience auditing suppliers and subcontractors
Practical experience managing supplier NCRs and corrective actions
Strong knowledge of 8D, 5 Why, Ishikawa or structured root cause methods
Understanding of FAIRs and AS9102 requirements
Able to read engineering drawings and technical specifications
Good understanding of material and manufacturing traceability
Confident communicating with suppliers at quality, engineering and management level
Willingness to travel to suppliers when requiredDesirable - Supplier Quality Engineer

Internal, Lead or Supplier Auditor qualification
Experience with fabricated products, machining, welding, tube manufacture or sheet metal
Knowledge of special processes and Nadcap requirements
Experience with heat treatment, welding, NDT, surface treatment or similar subcontract processes
Supplier development or improvement programme experience
Knowledge of APQP, PFMEA, Control Plans, SPC or process capability
Experience with supplier scorecards, risk assessments or counterfeit-part prevention

Supplier Quality Engineer salary: £40,000 – £45,000

A 38-hour working week with a half-day Friday.
