Job Title: Student Progress & Pastoral Mentor

Location: Bromley, London

Working Pattern: Full-Time, Term Time Only

Salary: [£33762 - £44027] (Spine Point 24 to 26)

The Opportunity

We are partnering with an established Further Education provider in Bromley to recruit a Student Progress & Pastoral Mentor on a term-time-only contract. This role is ideal for an energetic educator or youth worker dedicated to making a measurable impact on young people's lives. Acting as the primary pastoral guide for post-16 learners, you will lead weekly group sessions, track academic targets, and ensure every student is fully supported to achieve their potential and progress into higher education or employment.

About the Setting

The college offers a supportive, modern educational environment catering to post-16 learners across diverse subject pathways. Pastoral care and academic performance are integrated across all departments, with dedicated teams collaborating to remove learning barriers, support vulnerable cohorts, and promote student wellbeing.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

Facilitate engaging weekly group tutorials covering safeguarding, study skills, pastoral themes, careers, and social action projects.

Oversee a pastoral caseload averaging 15 tutorial groups (approximately 300 post-16 students).

Conduct individual 1-to-1 progress meetings to establish SMART goals and track student achievements throughout the year.

Coordinate attendance and behaviour interventions alongside curriculum staff, parents/carers, and external support agencies.

Act as the initial point of contact for student welfare, identifying vulnerable learners and referring them to internal safeguarding and wellbeing teams.

Guide students through UCAS application writing, Gatsby career benchmarks, enrichment projects, and work experience tracking.

Attend progress reviews, parents' evenings, disciplinary meetings, and key college events such as enrolment and Open Days.

What We Are Looking For

Qualifications & Knowledge: Minimum of Level 2 literacy and numeracy (essential). A relevant degree (such as Youth Work) or previous experience working within Further Education is desirable.

Experience & Skills: Proven track record of running group workshops and delivering 1-to-1 support to young people. Strong communication skills, calm authority under pressure, and an empathetic approach to supporting diverse student needs.

Commute & Availability: Ability to commute reliably to Bromley, London, with a flexible approach to working hours during major college calendar events.

Safeguarding & Compliance

This post is subject to an Enhanced DBS check, satisfactory references accounting for a full employment history, and verification of the right to work in the UK. The college is strictly committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
