Structural Engineer

Location: Manchester

Role: Permanent

The company: The company is an established, award winning structural and civil engineering consultancy. Their projects range from small domestic alterations and extensions, to newbuilds and Super homes, low-rise building conversions, swimming pools, temporary works, drainage and highways design, in Residential, Commercial, and Institutional sectors. They also undertake structural surveys and defect diagnosis on existing buildings and structures. Advising on the repairs of buildings after insurance events, working for clients nationally.

Job:

They are seeking a disciplined and logical Structural Engineer with at least 3-years post Graduate experience in the design of low-rise structures in structural steel, reinforced concrete, timber and masonry, to join their growing team. This role is particularly suited to capable individuals who wish to drive their careers forwards to professional qualification.

Role Description and Duties:

As part of the integrated structural engineering design team, you will attend initial site visits and project design team meetings, and prepare technical documents, including design calculations, drawings, schedules, reports, specifications etc, and coordinate design with the wider design team. This role is particularly suited to capable individuals who wish to drive their careers forward to professional qualification.

· Analysis and design of low-rise building structures in structural steel, reinforced concrete, timber and masonry, reporting to Senior Engineer or Project Director

· Using 3D modelling software such as Tekla Structural Designer TSD

· Produce detailed hand calculations

· Produce and amend drawings using Autodesk software including AutoCAD and Revit

· Attend external design team meetings, site progress meetings, and inspections with clients, other design team members and contractors

· Visit sites to inspect works without supervision

· Collaborate with architects and other construction professionals in the development of designs

· Direct technicians in the production of drawings using Autodesk software including AutoCAD and Revit

· Contribute to internal project design meetings

· Assist with project administration

Skills and Qualifications:

· MEng or BEng degree in Structural / Civil Engineering (2:1 or above)

· At least 3 years’ experience designing low-rise buildings to British Standards

· Be working towards Chartered status with IStructE or ICE

· Determination to find solutions to problems

· Excellent attention to detail

· Good interpersonal skills; a team player

· Effective communication skills to work with multidisciplinary teams through verbal, written and sketched communications

· Proficient using Tekla Structural Designer, AutoCAD and Revit

· Good understanding of how building structures are formed and constructed

· Interested in structures and buildings.

Training

The client will provide the successful candidate both formal and on the job training with support in attaining professional qualifications with the Engineering Council and a relevant professional institution. The wide variety of projects being undertook is particularly suited to engineers who want to get a good grounding in all aspects of building structures design. Engineers will find that responsibility for managing projects comes very quickly for those that show ability.
