Street Works Inspector

1-2 Months contract with a Local Authority

Job Summary:

·         Assisting in the application of the New Roads and Streetworks Act 1991 (NRSWA) as amended by the Traffic Management Act 2004 (TMA) and the Southeast Permit Scheme (SEPS) within Slough Borough.

·         Carrying out timely and accurate street works / permit inspections and assist in co-ordination and monitoring of street and road works through the SEPS, ensuring the safe and efficient movement of traffic in the borough.

·         Dealing with enquiries and complaints from the public, members, and utility representatives.

·         Assisting in the enforcement of highway law.

Key Duties/Accountabilities:

·         To provide inspection and coordination services to facilitate greater control of all works activities on the road network to minimise disruption, and to help in maintaining the expeditious movement of traffic on the network.

·         To ensure compliance with network / StreetWorks legislation and codes of practice.

·         To ensure that all applicable income is collected in order to maintain a ‘cost neutral scheme.

·         To assist in ensuring that the Council discharges its legal duties in relation to the requirements imposed by the TMA, NRSWA and SEPS in respect of management of the highway network.

·         To complete inspections of statutory undertaker and highway authority works to ensure compliance with all conditions stipulated via the SEPS.

·         To complete computer generated random sample inspections of statutory undertaker, highway authority and licensee works to ensure compliance with the Safety at Street Works Code of Practice, Specification for the Reinstatement of Openings in the Highway (SROH), and to issue defect notices and/or directions as appropriate

Essential Experience Required:

·         Experience in relation to the requirements imposed by the TMA, NRSWA and SEPS in respect of management of the highway network is essential.

Essential Qualification Required:

·         The candidate should be Literate and numerate with Good general education.
