Stewardship & Farm Conservation Advisor

Details:
Description:

Are you looking for a new role where you can make a positive impact for both farmers and landowners, whilst contributing to the improvement of wildlife habitats? This role could be exactly what you have been searching for!

The Company

Since 2004, this company has been providing valuable advice to farmers and landowners, helping them to best make use of Agri-environment schemes to improve and protect habitats and ensure sustainable agriculture for years to come.

Based in their office in Huntingdon, they serve a number of clients nationwide and are known as market leaders within their field.

Due to steady and continuous growth of the last few years, they now have a well-established team which they are now looking to add to, in order to keep up with their increasing workload.

The Role

This is an exciting and varied role where you will provide specialised advice on the Agri-environment schemes that are available to farmers and landowners, and how to best make use of them to improve wildlife habitats. You will help to educate farmers on the best practices to help maximise environmental benefit and also guide them through the process. You will travel to meet with clients across the UK and consult with them on an-in person basis, as well as from the office in Huntingdon. You will have the opportunity to work within a very close-knit and friendly team who are all striving towards a common goal of helping to make agriculture more environmentally sustainable.

About You

You will have a degree in an environmental or agricultural field. FACTS, BASIS, Certificate in Sustainable Land Management or similar would also be desirable but are not essential. You will have extensive experience of in-person, on-farm, conservation advice and be well versed in the application of Agri-environment schemes administered by the Rural Payments Agency. You will be familiar with computer-based mapping. You are someone who can work both in a team and independently and you have an ability to prioritise work activities and complete tasks on a deadline.

You will have a strong knowledge of the key priority species and habitats on lowland farms, their pressures and the main conservation mechanisms. You will also understand the basics of lowland agriculture systems, including arable, livestock and the annual cycle. You will be able to carry out in-field identification of common farmland birds, butterflies and plants. A knowledge of common farmland weeds and the components of Agri-environment seed mixtures would also be desirable.

Because of the requirement for regular travel with this role, a full clean UK driving licence is essential.
