Position: STEM Lab Technician 

Location: Tower Hamlets 

Contract: Part Time - 2/3 days a week 

Start date: September 2026 

Smart Teachers are seeking a motivated and skilled STEM Lab Technician to join a forward-thinking secondary education setting. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a technical or engineering background who is passionate about supporting young people and helping to deliver innovative STEM learning experiences.

Working as part of a dedicated STEM team, you will play a key role in supporting the development of a hands-on engineering project, including the construction of Greenpower cars. You will manage specialist equipment, maintain workshop facilities, and provide technical guidance to students and staff, ensuring a safe and engaging learning environment.

The Role

Coordinate the procurement, setup and maintenance of STEM workshop equipment and machinery.
Support the construction and development of Greenpower car projects.
Maintain machinery including CNC equipment, welding equipment and power tools.
Provide technical support and training to students and staff on the safe use of equipment.
Ensure workshop health and safety procedures, risk assessments and compliance are maintained.
Monitor equipment inventories, maintenance schedules and project resources.
Assist with STEM workshops, events and project documentation.
Work collaboratively with teaching staff and project leads to support high-quality STEM education.
The Ideal Candidate

Holds a relevant Level 2 technical qualification (or higher) in Engineering, Manufacturing or a related discipline, or has equivalent practical experience.
Has experience working with technical machinery and workshop equipment.
Ideally has experience supporting STEM or science environments within education or industry.
Has strong knowledge of health and safety procedures and risk assessments.
Is organised, proactive and able to maintain accurate records.
Enjoys working with young people and supporting practical learning.
Has excellent communication skills and can work effectively as part of a team.
