Description:

Our leading Douglas-based Finance Sector Client is expanding its Technology Team as they progress an ambitious transformation programme. As the evolution continues, they now require an experienced SQL DBA / Developer.

The SQL DBA / Developer is a hybrid position that combines the responsibilities of a Database Administrator (DBA) with those of a SQL developer. This role requires a skilled individual with expertise in both database management and SQL development. Working within the IT Architecture & Engineering team, you will be responsible for support, maintenance and administration of the SQL database servers and databases of key applications and services, bringing the experience to ensure that business needs are met through:

* Management of the database server architecture, including, configuration and maintenance of SQL databases [e.g., SQL Server, Azure SQL]

* Performing DBA administrative tasks including performance monitoring, optimisation and tuning databases for optimal performance, ensuring smooth operation of applications and overall database health

* Implementing robust security measures to protect sensitive data, including user access control and encryption

* Inputting to Corporate backup and recovery strategies to minimise data loss and downtime in case of emergencies

* Collaborating with the planning and implementing disaster recovery procedures to ensure quick database restoration in case of system failures

* Collaborating with engineering and infrastructure colleagues to identify and implement beneficial/best practice maintenance plans that are appropriate for the required business need for on premise and clouds based platforms (e.g., Amazon RDS, Microsoft Azure SQL Database)

Additionally, you will be involved in:

* Working closely with application developers to understand their data needs and assist in designing appropriate database solutions

* The analysis, design, specification, development, testing and documenting of new and amended programs in accordance with agreed standards to meet defined business needs, retaining compatibility with enterprise and solution architectures

* The provision of system support to ensure business processing is completed in accordance with agreed service agreements

The ideal candidate for the role of DBA / Developer will have:

* Thorough knowledge of the systems development life cycle, from inception through analysis, development & testing, to implementation

* Experience, across a range of platforms and disciplines, of more than 2 concurrent projects each of more than 6 months duration

* Experience of Microsoft SQL Server is essential, including experience of T-SQL, SSIS, SSAS, SSRS, SQL performance tuning & fault analysis

* Previous experience of cloud-based database platforms Amazon RDS, Microsoft Azure SQL extremely beneficial

* Previous experience of Microsoft Data platform tools (Azure Databricks, Microsoft Fabric) beneficial

* Education to graduate level or relevant work experience

* A proactive individual, self-motivated, and able to use own initiative

* Excellent spoken and written communication skills, with the ability to express technical concepts in Business English to non-technical audiences

* The ability to work under pressure and maintaining focus and accuracy is a necessity for this role

* Proven disciplined and consistent analytic approach and mindset

* The ability to work with stakeholders at different levels of seniority, multiple different suppliers and geographies

* Experience working with outsourced technical landscapes and financial services desirable
