Senior Platform / Automation Engineer (Developer Background) (DV CLEARANCE)

Location: London, Manchester, Ipswich, and Cheltenham.

Role Type: 6 Months Contract and Hybrid role.

About the Role We are seeking a Senior Platform & Automation Engineer who combines strong software engineering fundamentals with deep infrastructure-as-code (IaC) expertise. You will own and evolve our core infrastructure, driving automation across our entire technical stack-all delivered seamlessly through unified CI/CD pipelines.

This role requires a developer background (strong Python) to ensure our infrastructure code and automation workflows adhere to modern software design standards.

Key Responsibilities

Infrastructure as Code: Design, build, and maintain scalable infrastructure using Terraform and Ansible.

Automation & Scripting: Develop custom automation tools, internal CLI systems, and integration scripts primarily in Python.

CI/CD Orchestration: Manage standard continuous delivery pipelines, integrating infrastructure updates, container deployments, and tool setups directly into developer workflows.

Tech Stack Delivery: Automate the provisioning and configuration of our operational ecosystem, including tools across observability (Prometheus, Elastic, Checkmk), security/compliance (Tenable, Red Hat Satellite), service registry/IPAM (NetBox), container orchestration (ArgoCD), and artifact management (Artifactory, GitLab).

Engineering Standards: Apply developer methodologies-such as version control, code reviews, automated testing, and CI/CD-to all infrastructure configurations.

Required Skills & Experience

Software Development Foundation: Strong background in software engineering or development, with hands-on coding experience in Python.

Core IaC Expertise: Proven experience with Terraform (provisioning) and Ansible (configuration management).

Pipeline Delivery: Experience building and managing CI/CD pipelines (GitLab CI, Jenkins, or similar) to ship both software and infrastructure changes.

Linux Environment: Solid understanding of Enterprise Linux environments (e.g., RHEL).
