Description:

Veterinary Surgeon. Freeland, near Witney, Oxfordshire. £45k-£60k DOE

Unique, friendly, rural, independent practice, well respected, professional and fun to work in - come and join the team!

When you become a vet you do it for the love of animals, not necessarily for the paperwork or increasingly for the pressurised sales targets. Spending less time with patients was not the plan, and still isn’t.

We understand that you care deeply about your profession and you want to be the best vet you can be, whilst working for a practice that mirrors your beliefs.

You want to feel appreciated, cared for and mentored and develop your skills in an environment where you can work up your cases and see them through from beginning to end. You will add value to the practice through your ideas, learn from others and enjoy clinical freedom and autonomy.

Luckily there are still places like that, and this one is hiring.

Based near Witney, in rural West Oxfordshire, this independent practice is hiring due to increased demand for the popular and reputable service it provides. Well known for its personal touch, its friendly and experienced team strives to deliver exceptional care to the pets in the local community. They have a loyal and ever-expanding client base.

This is a practice where everybody pulls together and supports each other. The current team consists of 1 vet with support from a locum vet, 3 RVNs, and 1 SVN. Sharing ideas, talking through cases, mentoring and teamwork are at the heart of this practice. You need to be a team player to apply.

When it comes to the work itself, you will have a good mix of consultations and operations. You can expect a varied caseload, 20-minute consultations and scheduled breaks for case workups, reporting results etc. You will have the freedom to make your own decisions but with back up from a senior colleague when needed.

You will need to be competent and confident in all aspects of general practice, as sole charge responsibilities will be needed, therefore ideal candidates will be a minimum of 3 years qualified. All applications will be considered and although this is a full-time, permanent role (4 days per week), part-time applications are encouraged also. A good work-life balance is of fundamental importance to the ethos of this practice.

You will be pleased to know that there will be no out-of-hours, or on-call. The weekend rota is currently 1 in 2 Saturday mornings 9 am – 12 noon. 37.5 hours per week, 8:30 am – 6:30 pm, with 1 hour for lunch.

If you were to join this small team, they are looking for someone who wants to be involved in the running of the practice long term. You should want to share ideas and build a future role for yourself with passion and commitment. There is scope for professional development, support with certificates and CPD and an unwavering commitment to your career growth.

What is on offer to you…

£45k-£60k per annum, depending on experience, VDS and RCVS paid for and professional memberships. Holidays: 25 days plus BHs and CPD is actively encouraged and so is further learning, with an extensive CPD budget.

Location-wise the practice is 10 miles from the famous city of Oxford. You can have the best of this rural countryside location, based in a converted Coachhouse on an estate, surrounded by trees and fields, as well as the many delights of the city on your doorstep. Oxford is steeped in history, from its famous colleges, to its world class museums, libraries, theatres and a vibrant array of shops and other entertainment.

So, what’s next?

Choosing a new practice is a big decision. You are looking to work with a caring team who have the right values, a place where you can develop, add value, and give back to the profession you love.

Send your CV, don’t worry if it’s not up-to-date. We can’t get the whole story in a job ad so ask any questions. I’ll answer honestly, no hard sell.
