JOB DESCRIPTION

A building system site technician to ensure best practice is achieved and that the reputation of our company, customers, products & systems are protected and enhanced. Systematically inspect on-going and installed projects for compliance with the specification. Monitor purchasing of the specified system components to ensure they are procured through Soltherm. Deliver contractor training programs both in a classroom and practically.

This position requires a high degree of flexibility and communication skills to build customer relationships on site and to assist our commercial teams with the management of customer relationships at all levels.

Responsibility for dealing with daily onsite enquiries for product, technical and system information to support relevant Sales Managers and region. Ranging from brief specification, technical and application advice to complex and involved projects concerning construction detailing and correspondence at design stage.

Client facing duties including attending project design meetings, pre-start site meetings with main contractors, architects and sub-contractors as and when necessary.

The job can be physically demanding, requiring you to be exposed to all weather conditions. The position involves working at height, using ladders, scaffolding and safety equipment. You would travel from site to site, and some jobs may require overnight stays away from home.

In addition to their primary duties, the role will also encompass providing technical support in Northern Ireland and the Isle of Man.

QUALIFICATION/ SKILLS

Sound technical knowledge of building technology, with a good understanding of the contractual processes of the industry.

The site technician will work very much on his/her own initiative, prioritising and making day to day decisions, whilst being aware of commercial implications of decisions. The site technician will consider and produce a weekly diary that ensures all jobs are visited at critical stages. Success will be measured through achievement of a record of jobs which require no subsequent follow up of remedial work.

Works closely with colleagues, sharing advice and information gathered from the field. Gives advice, information and training to contractors on all products, in particular their application and performance.

Good physical fitness and endurance is required to carry out tasks as necessary.

Knowledge and understanding of the relevant Building Regulations and other relevant legislation requirements to assist with advice to the customer with the ability to be comfortable communicating with construction industry professionals from architects to contractors alike.

- Plasterer/render applicator to trade with a minimum 5 years’ experience

- Conversant with Microsoft Office along with general computer literacy

- Practical industry experience

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

* Conduct technical site visits to ensure Soltherm systems are being installed to specification within a specific region. This will result in the compilation of detailed site reports.

* Accredited Contractor audits / training.

* Operate and service a region.

* Attend prestart meetings and provide clients and contractors with design and detail advice.

* Visit projects throughout installation and suitably assess for warranty application.

* Install test walls to specification.

* Prompt proactive action to avoid complaints and related costs.

* Assist the Sales Managers as necessary.

* Conducting onsite and internal training.

* Support the internal Technical Department where necessary.

* On site and in-house sampling and testing where necessary.

* Undertake pull out tests

* Produce site reports

* Ensure all activities are compliant with the current HSE regulations.

Technical Knowledge

- Sound technical knowledge of Soltherm Systems and products.

- Good understanding of general construction practise.

- Awareness of relevant construction and product related regulations.

- Provide contractors and Sales Managers with concise and accurate technical and practical advice.

Commercial Knowledge

- Sound commercial awareness particularly in relation to external wall insulation systems being offered by Soltherm.

- Build advantageous relationships with customers and installers to the benefit of the business.

- Monitor, assist and engage with our customers on site to ensure customer satisfaction and repeat or increased business.

Interpersonal Skills

- The ability to communicate at all levels and work both as part of a team and under own initiative

- Professional approach to the role appropriate to representing a premium building products business.

Communication Skills

- The ability and confidence to communicate on a professional level in several different mediums and on various levels.

- Regular verbal and written reporting of both system performance and customer issues in relation to specification.

- Ensure 'Live’ feedback to Sales Managers, logistics and senior management as necessary to avoid further potential issues.

Product Knowledge

- Thorough in-depth knowledge of all product applications and performance.

- Good knowledge of other products and systems offered by Bolix and the wider Group.

- Knowledge of competitors’ products and systems

- Understanding of relative strengths and weaknesses of competitors’ products v. our own

- Up-to-date knowledge of all legislative requirements, in particular Building Regulations, BBA Approvals, British Standards.

- Increase customer awareness of products benefits and applications.

- Identification of opportunities for improvement from both the supply and application perspective.

- Overcoming under-performance of specific products, systems or customers.

HEALTH & SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES

- Be responsible for the effective implementation of the Company Safety Policy, within their department, site or area of control.

- Ensure that the requirements of Health and Safety legislation are applied within their area of responsibility and that the Works Instructions are observed and adhered too.

- Hold a CSCS safety card; Have good knowledge of construction site safety procedures and rules.

- Have an understanding of the Work at Heights Regulations and safe working practices of construction sites, including safe use of ladders and fall restraint/ fall arrest equipment desirable; however, training will be given.

- Clean Driving licence.
